Today we’re taking you back to Lucia and Michael’s intimate Bruny Island wedding, which first appeared in the 2021 Real Wedding Special (unfortuntely, sold out. but you can grab the latest version right here! These two lovebirds got married with a handful of people involved – the bride in Country Road, no less – and absolutely no regrets. “Best decision ever! We made some beautiful memories, with the people we love, in a stunning destination. It was truly our day,” the couple tell us.

We also rate their definition of marriage. “We believe that marriage is the celebration of two people, who have decided that the experience of life is far better when it is shared with the person they love.” Awww!  Hello May fave, Janneke Storm was the lady behind the lens to capture this dreamy day, and her pics (as usual) are a sight to see.

THE VENUE “We held our ceremony on the large property at our Airbnb, The Hide – Bruny Island. The remote and rugged vibe of the property, overlooking the bay was exactly what we had hoped for.”

THE VIBE “We wanted a low-key, understated and zero-fuss day that we could enjoy with just a few of those closest to us. A ceremony in nature, and out of our usual surroundings.”

THE DRESS “I bought my dress from Country Road. It is a simple, cream-coloured, slightly vintage-style dress, which made me feel like a forest fairy – exactly what I wanted for our nature-inspired wedding. The best part was, it didn’t take me long to find! Even though I love shopping, I run out of patience fairly quickly if I can’t find what I want. The whole process was pretty casual, online browsing mostly until I laid eyes on what I thought might be the one. After trying it on, I knew straightaway it was perfect for me”.

COOL CUSTOM “We wanted to acknowledge Lucia’s Slovak heritage, so we incorporated handfasting into our ceremony as well as a ceremonial toast to seal the deal, with an imported bottle of Tatra Tea – a Slovak national spirit. As tradition in Slovakia dictates, it’s never too early to start drinking on your wedding day so we opened a bottle of traditional Slovak spirit and we toasted to a beautiful day! We laughed, ate and drank out on the deck, surrounded by nature with the morning sun in our face.”

A WORD OF ADVICE“Do what you want! Don’t let other people to tell you what sort of wedding you should have.”

STANDOUT VENDOR “Special mention to Janneke Storm, our photographer, who was incredibly generous with the time and effort she gave leading up to, during and after our big day. We felt completely at ease, as Janneke helped us create and capture our special moments.”

Janneke Storm is a deadset genius behind the camera (and a total legend to boot), so we definitely recommend giving her a call to shoot your day. Click here to get in touch with the gal herself.
