Each week we celebrate ‘Throwback Thursday’ here at Hello May HQ. We grab a wedding from our print archives that’s never been seen online before and share it here with our wider (digital) audience. Today we’re taking you back to Issue 37, with the beautiful McLaren Vale, South Australia, wedding of Laura and Mitch, which was photographed by one of our fave  wedding photographers, the always amazing Ali Bailey.

THE VENUE “We got married at Coriole Vineyards in McLaren Vale. This location was so special to us both, but in particular Mitch as it was purchased by his grandparents in the 1960s and has remained in the family ever since. The location, food and wine were all incredible and it was a no-brainer when choosing our wedding location.”

THE VIBE “We really wanted the day to be authentically us but given the black-tie theme, we wanted to add those beautiful finishing touches to really create the vibe. Romantic, ethereal elements were intertwined through the day with some of the settings and florals created. The venue has so much to offer so we didn’t need to add too much to bring our vision to life.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “This is really hard to narrow down as there were so many but for me the top three would be seeing Mitch when I first walked down the aisle, a surprise speech from some of his wonderful friends on the night and then Mitch’s performance of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata into Still Dre by Dr Dre.”

THE DRESS “It was from Caleche in Adelaide. It was custom made and the whole experience from start to finish was fantastic. I knew that what I wanted couldn’t be found on a rack and I would be after something custom and after hearing rave reviews about Caleche from a few close friends they were the first destination I went to once I started looking. I always knew I wanted sleeves to be the hero of the dress and Caleche helped with piecing the rest of the puzzle together and as it evolved we tweaked and finessed things further to bring the vision to life such as the added tulle on the bodice and lace down the skirt to tie in with the sleeves for example.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “It’s easy to get caught up in everything else that is going on but my recommendation is just be 100% present on the day and focus on the two of you. We took five minutes after dinner to have a moment the two of us after photos and look back on the reception and it was so special having that moment just the two of us.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “I was quite particular about who I wanted for our photography and videography and Ali Bailey and I Do Cinema were fantastic in bringing that vision to life and telling our story on the day.”
