Translucent Photography

Images that reflect not only what moments looked like, but what they felt like. That’s what I’m all about.

Hey! I’m Lucy! I’m based on the South Coast, just south of beautiful coastal Wollongong NSW, sharing my life with my husband Dean & our mini dachshund Winston. I’m my happiest at sunset, I drink way too much coffee & I am utterly obsessed with dogs. I’ve also been photographing weddings now for almost 9 years & absolutely love what I do!

I have a candid & unobtrusive approach (adding a touch of direction where needed to reduce the awkward feels), documenting your day as a visual time capsule of your memories to be loved, shared & relived with generations to follow. The laughter. The goosebumps. The tears. The warmth of hugs. The emotion in a touch. The splitting of one’s pants after one too many beers, breaking out those killer dance floor moves.. and everything in between. I’m there to capture it all!

Your wedding day is just the tip of the iceberg for your overall experience with us however! The entire lead up to your plans I’m there to support & offer guidance, whatever it may be! And after? Let’s create an album & print your memories, or, if a family is in your future, I’d love to continue to capture your milestones into parenthood!

I travel as far north as the Hunter Valley, west as the Blue Mountains and south as Canberra. My local area is South Coast/Southern Highlands, and I would absolutely love to be a part of your wedding plans!

FAQ

Do you help with timelines and planning?

\Yes! Across my 13 years now of photographing over 500 weddings, (plus also add in a random fun fact that in a past life, I was a wedding coordinator at a wedding venue!) I’ve learned a good thing or a thousand on how much time generally works for each element of a wedding day. The biggest cause of stress I find on a wedding day, is not allocating enough time to the parts of the day that you value most. I provide all my couples with a wedding timeline guide which goes through each part of a wedding day, and can be adapted for any time of year, with any structure that you wish for your day. Plus, my email inbox is always open for further questions.

How would you describe your photography style?

My mantra is “relaxed, raw & real”. You’ll see these words repeated throughout my website, and no doubt you’re wondering, okay, how does this actually translate into wedding photography? In simple terms, I consider my style to be candid and unobtrusive. My goal is to document your wedding day as it naturally unfolds, capturing genuine moments, real emotions and all the little in-between moments that often become the memories you treasure most.
Rather than constantly directing or interrupting what’s happening, I prefer to blend into the background and tell the story of your day as authentically as possible. Of course, there are times where some guidance is beneficial, but my overall approach is about creating wedding photographs that feel natural, relaxed and true to you.

We're not photo people and are really awkward in front of the camera. How can you help with this?

If I had a dollar for every time a couple told me this I’d probably be retired by now. I’d estimate that 99% of my couples tell me they’re awkward in front of the camera aren’t “photo people”. You’re absolutely not alone & most of the couples you see throughout my website felt exactly the same before their wedding.
My role is to keep things calm, relaxed, keep the banter ripe & the vibes high. When you feel relaxed, you’ll look relaxed. I want to capture your day as it is rather than script it to look like something it’s not.Over the years I’ve developed plenty of ways to help couples feel comfortable in front of the camera during their wedding photography experience & more often than not I’m told afterwards that the photo session was one of the most enjoyable parts of the day – not just by the couple but also their wedding party.

Do you need to have photographed at our venue before?

Not at all. Every wedding venue I’ve photographed at, I’ve visited for the first time at some point. In fact, I often find these are some of my strongest weddings because I’m not arriving with preconceived ideas about where photos “should” be taken. Instead, I’m responding to the lighting, weather conditions & unique elements of your venue on the day itself.
After photographing hundreds of weddings across a huge variety of venues, I’ve learnt that great photographs come from understanding light, reading a situation & adapting – not simply revisiting the same locations over & over again and having a “cookie cutter” approach.
That said, if I have photographed at your venue before, that’s a bonus, but absolutely not a requirement.

Do you travel for weddings across Australia or internationally?

Once upon a time, yes. These days, however, I keep my travel radius fairly small.
I’m based near Wollongong on the NSW South Coast & regularly photograph weddings throughout the South Coast, Southern Highlands, Sydney, Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley and Canberra wedding regions.
While destination weddings once featured heavily in my business, these days I’d much rather spend my time photographing weddings closer to home than travelling interstate or internationally. It means less time in airports, more time with my family, & more flexibility for my couples too.So if you’re planning a wedding within my little corner of the world, there’s a very good chance I’d love to hear from you.

How far in advance should couples book you for their wedding?

Most couples book me in between 12 – 24 months out from their wedding day.
Popular dates, particularly Fridays & Saturdays during peak wedding season (Autumn & Spring), tend to book the quickest. Within those seasons, March, April, October & November are often my busiest months. If you’ve already secured your venue and know you’d love me to photograph your day, I’d recommend reaching out sooner rather than later.
That said, don’t panic if your wedding is only a few months away. If I’m available, I’d be absolutely happy to chat. I’ve photographed weddings booked years in advance and others organised in a matter of weeks.
The best approach? Enquire as soon as you’re ready so you don’t miss out on your date.

What makes your wedding business different from others in the industry?

Truthfully? There are a lot of incredibly talented photographers in the wedding industry, & I’d never claim to be the right fit for every couple.
What sets my business apart isn’t just the photographs themselves, but the experience that surrounds them. I’m a big believer that great wedding photography starts long before your wedding day. From timeline advice & family photo planning to vendor recommendations & answering the random questions that pop up along the way, I’m here to help.
Above all else, I genuinely care about my couples. You’re never treated like just another booking in my calendar, & I think that makes all the difference.

What should couples know before booking you?

Before booking me, you should know that while I take my job very seriously, I don’t take myself too seriously.
I like banter, I love a good laugh & I genuinely enjoy getting to know my couples. Weddings can be emotional, stressful, exciting & chaotic all at once, and I find people are at their best when they’re relaxed and having fun (myself included!).
If you’re after a photographer who’ll blend in with your guests, help keep nerves at bay, crack the occasional terrible joke & document your day as it naturally unfolds, we’ll probably get along just fine.
