Both doctors, Shirly and Chen met in medical school and hooked up soon after. A decade later, they said I do in the picturesque Adelaide Hills with the cutest little ring bearer we ever did see, Pocky their Pomeranian pup dressed in a darling tuxedo made to order by Shirly, her mum and aunt. The rest of the weekend included the most stunning styling from The Stylist’s Guide, a gorg reception gown change from the bride…  and karaoke! FUN! To top off this day of days, the incredible Taylor Kezia was tasked with snapping photos, and they are about as beautiful s they come. Scroll down to see…

THE VENUE “We chanced upon the Sequoia Lodge when we booked a room for a short weekend getaway. We instantly fell in love with the location – a private retreat located in the Adelaide Hills with a sweeping view of Piccadilly Valley – and loved the idea of an intimate wedding, while treating our guests to a luxurious staycation. We decided to place an enquiry, and the rest was history!”

FAVE DEETS “The magical reception set-up [by The Stylists Guide] with an abundance of whimsical florals and candles adorning the place.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS “Seeing Shirly walk down the aisle was pretty emotional, although she was running an hour late and had everyone waiting under the sweltering heat of 35 degrees. And having our dog Pocky join us for the ceremony, which was a detail that was really important for us and part of the reason we decided to have a wedding in Australia (on top of our second wedding event in Malaysia with our extended families). Pocky, being our ring bearer, stole the show when he refused to walk down the aisle and had to be carried down instead, the sight of which made everyone laugh. And of course, having karaoke with all our guests was a special touch (as we both love karaoke) and everyone had so much fun!”

A WORD OF ADVICE “Do lots of research prior to hiring vendors, but after that, have faith in your vendors, don’t worry too much, enjoy the process and just have fun on the day.”

STANDOUT VENDOR Special mention to our photographer Taylor Kezia. We aren’t photogenic and are camera-shy, hence we were more than a little nervous at the thought of photo sessions. We were glad that we organised to have a pre-wedding shoot with Taylor, which helped familiarise us with the process and get to know Taylor. Taylor was a superstar throughout and was absolutely patient with us – she even helped look after our pet dog Pocky (who joined for the pre-wedding shoot) in between photos. We worked really well as a team, and Taylor was a supportive pillar throughout the day.”
