Benji and I have been together since we were 16 years old. High school sweethearts, they call it. It’s taken 14.5 years and three children to get us ‘officially’ married.” Wowza! A strong start, we say! Benji’s black ‘fit screams cool from head to toe and the gown is simply delicious. The talented Light & Type, took the piccies and another fave, Sea + Paper Creative Studio provided the paper goods, along with many more impressive vendors.  Scroll down for more…

THE VENUE “We wanted a simple blank canvas that we could make our own, but we also wanted a venue with innate personality that wouldn’t require a huge transformation. The Chapel (The Commons Collective) was just that: a beautiful white space with old-world charm which provided the perfect backdrop to minimal and modern adornment.”

THE INSPO “We ultimately wanted a very intimate, non-traditional wedding which minimised formalities and maximised time with our nearest and dearest. Both our ceremony and reception dinner were held in the same space which made for a cosy celebration with just our immediate family and closest friends. We selected a muted colour palette of neutral blush tones for a grounding vibe to nurture togetherness. Aesthetically, the palette was carried across our invitations, table setting, florals, cake and outfits.”

FAVE DEETSOur cake by Jolly Cakery. The brief was elegant and minimal, and they nailed it! The florals (Friday Blooms by Steph). I was blown away by how pristine and luxurious the roses were; they arrived looking picture-perfect in a beautiful blush that matched perfectly with our colour theme. Given we went minimal with florals and only selected one type of rose it was important that they hold their own as centrepieces, and they did.”

THE DRESS “I thought I’d found my dress well before we were engaged. What girl doesn’t secretly plan their wedding before the proposal? By the time the wedding planning officially begun, I was three kids in and incredibly self-conscious being a plus-size woman. I knew what I really wanted. It was never going to be the traditional white bridal gown. I wanted colour, simple but romantic. It was really disappointing to find that most boutiques required a special order for plus sizes, none readily available to try on like the ‘average’ sized 4-12. After months of searching and our wedding day fast approaching, I came across “ Mama Rentals” on Instagram. A maternity dress rental business for baby showers and photoshoots, but for me – my wedding! Who says you have to be pregnant to wear a maternity gown? Mama Rentals Owner Alice, posted the beautiful beige Reclamation Wonderment and Awe Gown for me to try on at home and I fell in love! A dress that would have cost $1,300 to buy from Canada, I hired for $259.”

LITTLE LOLMy husband was so nervous during the ceremony that he took Louise (my middle name) to be his lawful wedded wife. Being the supportive partner that I am, I closed my eyes and laughed to the ceiling.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Although our ceremony was short and sweet, the impact our celebrant had on our special day was paramount. Tee (Marry Me Tee) was amazing; she did an excellent job of pulling key sentiments from individual conversations to help celebrate and communicate our unique love story in a way that was truly us. Our photographer Nicole (Light & Type) also had a similar calming effect. She was able to capture a camera-shy bride and groom and make us feel and look good. Having our children with us made our wedding photos even more special; they will be cherished for a long time.”
