Guys. These two are lucky. They booked their wedding a week before COVID hit the country, but for this year when restrictions had eased and they were able to have all their friends and family attend. They also hired a bunch of our fave vendors (Motta Weddings on pics, Pomp & Splendour on blooms and Meg Maskell Fine Jewellery for the engagement ring) and boy was the wedding a good one. THE VENUE “The Euroa Butter Factory was the only venue we looked at. I actually flew down to Melbourne without Isaac for the day and went with my parents to check it out. I instantly fell in love. We just loved the grounds and the big red brick building as a backdrop, Bernard and Jill do such a wonderful job of keeping the gardens blossoming. We also loved that it had space for our families to stay for the whole weekend, the location was great for guests travelling from both Melbourne and Sydney and the food was fantastic.”
FAVE DETAILS “Flowers! Oh my goodness I gasped when I saw my bouquet. I knew Pomp & Splendour were the benchmark for florals long before I booked them in, but the girls went above and beyond. We kept the florals simple, but boy oh boy were they beautiful. Every single person was blown away by the flowers. I really felt like lots of love was put into my bouquet, it was so much more beautiful than I ever imagined. The cake by Jim from The Euroa Butter Factory and the signage by Sarah from State of Elliott.”
DIY “We didn’t actually. Planning an interstate wedding during COVID was stressful enough without factoring in transporting homemade items. We just trusted in our vendors and kept things simple so each individual element could shine on its own. We were so fortunate that our suppliers were some of the best in Victoria.”
THE DRESS “After going to about seven bridal stores, I felt immense pressure to buy something at least six months before the day. So I did. I brought a very classic crepe, slim-fitting, huge train, off the shoulder wedding gown. Once I picked the dress up and tried it on, I felt suffocated in it. So six weeks out from the wedding I went and bought the “Concept Dress” from Aje and it was absolutely perfect. I was so comfortable I didn’t even change into the cute, short number I’d also purchased from Aje for the reception (I wore that to brunch the following day!). I just added a veil, gold accessories and an oversized bouquet to ‘bride’ it up a bit!”
REFERENCES “I am a wedding blog addict. I brought my first Real Wedding Special of Hello May long before I’d even met Isaac. So the real weddings featured were a major source of inspiration and pointed me in the right direction when finding all our vendors. Also I got into the deep depths of Instagram following link after link on lots of wedding features, saving the images I liked. Pinterest was then helpful for collating all the styling images I collected.”
MARRIAGE MEANS… “To always stick together closely, talk about everything and be happy for the other person’s success, unless it’s beating you in a board game, then all bets are off.”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Go with the flow! Lock in vendors who you love, that have glowing reviews and then put all your trust in them. Especially with photographic direction, just do what your photographer tells you! We are so glad that we locked in our vendors quickly after getting engaged, it made the process pretty stress free. I think also choosing quality over quantity with vendors was really important; I think in total we only hired six vendors, but they were all so incredible, we didn’t need anything else!”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Alex, of Motta Weddings, was a non-negotiable for us – we actually booked him in before we found a venue! And we are so so glad we did, I look at our photos daily. We honestly thought we come off so awkward in the photos, but he made us feel so comfortable. And when the rain started falling, he was calm and turned the raindrops into magic. Jill & Bernard from Euroa Butter Factory remained cool and calm, even with the change of plans due to weather. Nothing was a bother. We were blown away with the whole weekend. Mariah from M & The Best Men was our saviour – absolutely fantastic and the saxophone was another non-negotiable! The dance floor was full the entire night! And Trish Sousa, our makeup and hairstylist was a dream to work with.”
