We adore those who set trends rather than follow them – and groundbreaking bride, Soph, did just that. Inspiring her designer, Diane Lewis Couture, to release a new bespoke range of gowns and popularizing her family’s property, Riverwood, as Queensland’s newest wedding venue, Soph was all about going against the norm.
Sporting tropical gardens, a ginormous tipi and dreamy dangling willows, Soph admits that the venue looked so beautiful that it was enough to distract her from her eager fiance, Pete, as she walked down the aisle. “Pete and I just wanted a fun wedding in the garden where we could just relax but didn’t want that whole starch white feel of a wedding! And the vibe just continued from there the whole atmosphere is a direct reelection of my style. We loved it. We didn’t want to too cluttered with clichû? generic photo boots ect we wanted the nature to become part of the theme but everything still look full and not bitsy. I wanted it to look polished and finished -nothing worse than a job half done,” explains Soph.
With a team jam-packed with amazing vendors behind them, it was obvious that Soph and Pete’s wedding would be epic. From Belinda AKA The Flower God (of Stalks and Stems) to the super-talented Maria and Al of One Day in Mind and We are the Tsudons, the couple was tremendously grateful for everyone who became a part of the event.
From sneaking off in secret to share their first dance in private under the stars, to having their wedding exactly two years after the engagement party, and a very nervous groom mispronouncing his bride’s name (Pete accidentally called Soph “Sophalee” during his vows) – marriage – to Soph and Pete – is more than what meets the eye. “It just means spending your life with your best friend. Giving yourself to someone. Sharing life. It really doesn’t change you as such…..you just feel complete.”
