For Allira and Cameron, first seen in the Real Wedding Special, there was method in their madness. Deciding to create everything from scratch in just five months (and we mean everything!) their efforts culminated in a wedding that was truly one-of-a-kind.
£Because our wedding was planned with so little time, our frenzied preparations were quite comical, says Allira, recalling the night her and her family made over 100 shibori napkins. £Armed with tongs, masks, gumboots and gloves, our mad production line consisted of me?elbow deep in dye, my sister-in-law and mum rinsing the fabric in freezing water, and my mother-in-law providing refreshments and backup. Cameron said it was the female version of Breaking Bad.
Before long Allira’s parent’s place had become a hoarding facility, housing litres of home-brewed beer, handmade decorations, glassware, tablecloths, crockery and DIY wedding favours. £My mum was tremendous, going through twenty-five kilograms of wax for homemade candles and making several batches of jam for our favours.
The chaos continued right up until their ceremony held at Broger’s End, a lovingly restored farm shed located two hours south of Sydney. £?my bridesmaids were running around in curlers and pyjamas tag-teaming in hair by Eternal Elegance and makeup by Makeup by Megan getting the ceremony space sorted. It was like Calamity Jane but with champagne and Taylor Swift.
By some small miracle, Allira arrived at the end of the aisle on time, looking lovely in her Rue De Seine dress and handmade headpiece. £My favourite moment was seeing my future wife walk down the aisle with her dad – it was such an emotional moment, says Cameron.
The celebrations continued at Upper Kangaroo River Community Hall where guests were encouraged to eat, drink and dance while A Bear A Deer and A Fox captured it all on film. £?most memorable was the impromptu limbo session complete with nana cruising effortlessly and smugly under the bar in her wheelchair. Greatest dance floor since Footloose.
