Artistic all-rounder, Tara, and musician, Allen, met five and a half years ago and were engaged for just under a year before tying the knot. The theme for the day was surrealism and let us tell you, it looked like FUN. Hello May favourite Beck Rocchi was there to capture all the bright and colourful moments. Scroll down for the details…

THE VENUE “I spent my summers in Lorne from the age of 12, so getting married down the surf coast was really important to both of us. Since being together, Lorne has become Allen’s paradise too. We chose the Lorne Theatre for our ceremony because of its uniqueness and “non stuffy” vibe. We also had some pretty wild ideas for our ceremony to spice things up a little. We don’t do things in halves or like everyone else, so it was quite fitting for us to do something a little more unusual and fun.”

FAVOURITE DETAILS “Our oversized 6 foot tall flowers that were placed throughout the ballroom were incredible. They really added a sense of life and movement to the day. We loved the vintage furniture we rented from Good Day Rentals– it complimented the colors and vibe so well! We hosted our own ‘Stoney Awards’ (a take on the Emmy’s or Golden Globes) at the cinema where we nominated guests under each category some of which included ‘It’s Five O’clock Somewhere Award’ and ‘Most Likely To Spike The Punch’ award and awarded the winner with a $2 gold trophy, which was pretty ace. Oh, and the lamington tower cake! Everyone went nuts over that. I still think my dry cleaner is cleaning jam off my dress….”

REFERENCESHello May was a great reference actually! My close friend, and our photographer Beck Rocchi, pointed me in the right direction because of her extensive wedding experience and knowledge, starting with Hello May. I trawled real weddings and wrote lists of vendors and ideas and went from there. Pinterest was a great creative resource as well for hair, make-up, gift bags and styling etc. It can get really overwhelming, so I tried to not overdo it on the research.”

FAVOURITE MOMENT “We did very few speeches and kept them short, but during the final speech which Allen did, he was wrapping everything up, thanking everyone and was about to open up the dance floor- not before he said “ Oh, this is really important and before I forget…. Tazzy’s pregnant!” In that moment Outkast’s “Hey ya” started playing, everyone erupted and about six or so of my closest girlfriends came rushing over to me and gave me the biggest, tightest, warmest hug I have ever had. It was a really really special moment.”

STANDOUT VENDORSBeck Rocchi, our photographer and Scott Barker, our videographer. Man, those guys worked their butts off! They were incredible. The energy and enthusiasm from both of them was awesome. They worked a really long day and never took a break. They were both really professional.”

This wedding was first published in Issue 23 of Hello May. If you’d like to take a flick through the issue pop on over to our online store where limited copies are available.
