When it came to Tahnee and Mark’s wedding, they decided to take on the ultimate challenge: a DIY wedding. The amount of projects undertaken by the bride in this wedding was crazy – but so totally worth it. “I constantly questioned what I was thinking when I felt too overwhelmed by it all. But in the end, I am glad I trusted my gut,” explains Tahnee.
Coming from a creative background it was easy for Tahnee to bring her vision to life. Imagine this: an enchanted, rustic inspired space filled with hanging doilies, tonnes of hearts (read: 1200 individually cut, drawn and glued), bunting, pretty fabric covered hay bales – and that doesn’t even begin to capture the awesomeness of this romantic, Brisbane wedding.
In keeping with their theme, Tahnee ended up sporting a gorgeous The Babushka Ballerina headpiece and a custom George Wu gown (that we’re obsessed with), but it wasn’t without a few speed bumps along the way. “The dress was a huge process that resulted in a number of emotional breakdowns. I found George by default through a colleague at the time and after meeting him once, I knew he was going to be able to create something incredible. I think George has created a perfect reflection of my dream dress.”
Miriam from Life is Beautiful, who photographed the wedding, called Tahnee and Mark one of the most beautiful couples she has ever worked with. Her photos perfectly illustrate the sweet, intimate atmosphere of the wedding. “These guys did it right and knew what was important to them. They had all their friends for the ceremony followed by an afternoon tea, then the reception was immediate family only,” says Miriam. Tahnee was so elated and “full of love” on her wedding day, we hear that she even caught her own bouquet after the toss – they had to do two takes!
