Despite only having six months to plan their wedding, Steph and Sven refused to cut corners. Held on a private property in Victoria, less than 30km outside Melbourne’s CBD this pair literally built their day from the ground up. “The whole wedding was a DIY project. Having to create a scene from scratch was a challenging yet rewarding project”, says Steph who’d envisioned a communal feast under the stars, with romantic lighting and acoustic music.
Despite the weather (it was 43 degrees, windy and with a grizzly storm pending) she got what she wanted thanks to a sudden change of mind from Mother Nature and a few key vendors including Fig & Salt, The Details Co. and Heartwood Hire. “We could see the storm on the horizon getting closer and closer but we decided to keep the reception celebrations outdoors to be true to our vision. Miraculously, the storm literally broke around the boundaries of the property, and the most we got was a refreshing sprinkle that many of the guests welcomed as they danced under the moonlight.”
Beautifully captured by Will of Two Front Teeth, Steph was clearly the main attraction in her custom Emily Riggs gown. “I received it just five days before my wedding day and it couldn’t have been more perfect, it was everything I envisaged and more. I felt so comfortable, and true to myself”, says Emily who despite wearing white, wasn’t afraid to get her hands dirty. “In true German style, Sven and I were invited to participate in a sausage eating competition. Being German, Sven won of course.”
