Glowy and golden, Orange really put on a show for Steph and Charles’ nuptials. Mayfield Vineyard was the place to be and, with accommodation on-site, the couple were able to stretch celebrations out with wedding-day-eve wine-tasting and a relaxed next-day recovery. “To have both of our families and friends all together for a few days [was] unmatched,” the bride shared.

Below we dig into all the details with this new hubs and wife, from the fabulous catering to how they herded guests, and why photographer Jessica Turich was the first vendor they locked in.

A MULTI-DAY CELEBRATION AT MAYFIELD

“We had heard wonderful things about Mayfield from friends who had also been married there and we loved that we could stay for a few days and host all our events on site. The night before the wedding we had a Mayfield wine tasting in the afternoon as everyone arrived, followed by home cooked lasagnas with our families and a few friends staying on site. It was such a relaxed and perfect way to start the weekend. We also hosted a recovery back at Mayfield the next day, which made the whole experience feel so homey and special. Being able to do everything in one place meant we really got the most out of our time there. Plus, Orange is such a beautiful part of the world, it was a great place for our guests to spend a few days exploring.”

THE WEDDING FOOD

“I loved the food. The What If Society does the best steak tartare, which they served with homemade potato chips during cocktail hours.”

SINGING THE PRAISES OF JESSICA TURICH

“A lot of our vendors came through word of mouth but our amazing photographer, Jess, was someone I had been a huge fan of for years. She was actually the first vendor we locked in. We hadn’t even confirmed our date or venue yet but I wanted to check her availability before booking anything else. Jess’s work is absolutely breathtaking and we are in awe of how beautifully she captured our wedding day.”

STANDOUT MOMENTS (AND CHEEKY SPEECHES)

“My favourite part of the day was the ceremony. Seeing Steph come down the aisle was just breathtaking. All of the speeches were a close second.” (Steph) “My favourite memory was walking down the aisle. My Dad was making me laugh as we came out of the house and it was just magic to see everyone there. I was just so happy and so excited to be marrying Charles. I second what Charles said too, our speeches were so good (obviously biassed, I know, but they were so good). Charles’ best men, Hamish, his brother and Jack, his cousin, wrote a poem called ‘The Toughest Knees in NSW,’ making fun at the fact it took Charles 13 years to ‘bend the knee’. Gosh it was so clever and so funny!”

FOLLOW THE BAGPIPES

“We had our friend George bagpipe everyone from space to space. We LOVED this. We got married in the Mayfield Homestead garden and after the ceremony had a little bar set up so everyone could grab a drink & after a little white the bagpipes started up and everyone followed George across the venue to the School House where we had cocktail hour. He then did the same thing to move everyone into The Grove for reception. Loved this!”
