Safe to say Shelly and Tom’s vibrant backyard nuptials knocked us right off our chairs. Before you say anything, we know EXACTLY what you’re about to ask, and the answer is vintage Gucci. Yep, glowy, golden, fit-for-a-goddess vintage Gucci! That’s what Shelly was rocking when she and Tom (in one-of-a-kind Reigner) tied the knot. What a good-lookin’ pair.

Flicking through this wedding album, you’d be forgiven for losing track of time (guilty!) Shelly and Tom delegated camera duties to Maple and June. (Fun fact, business owner Zoe is a dear friend of the duo, making these snaps extra special, we’re sure.)

While we pick our jaws up off the floor, go ahead and check it out below. But first, let’s hear more from the newlyweds on those ‘fits, “devious” proposal plans, and their experience putting together a gorg garden wedding at their very own family home.

THE PROPOSAL

“Lots of pressure to get a perfect ring for Shelly, who is a very talented jeweller. I had thought and thought for so long, then one day it hit me, she was back studying in Melbourne and kept going on and on about her teacher, so I emailed the school and got an email address. The plan was set, we met up (at a McDonald’s, haha) and hatched a devious plan. Back and forth, we came up with a design. On her class’s awards night, I had to pretend to meet him for the first time and sneak him the stones. So I thought the hard part was over, lol. How the fuck do you propose?! When? Where? How? I freaked out and told her about at a New Year’s Eve party, so we left early and I gave her the ring on our balcony – it was perfect.”

THE VENUE

“We always wanted to get married at home. Shelly being obsessed with the garden, and us just having finished up some long renovations, plus we love to entertain. We wanted all our nearest and dearest at the house.”

THE VIBE

“There was no overarching theme. We just wanted it to be vibrant, fun and ‘us’. Both of us love to create, and we pulled things from our own collection and collaborated on the decorations. We were both really drawn to gold and, amazingly, had two green suits for the kids that worked really well with our outfits.”

THE DRESS

“I just knew I didn’t want something white, and I wanted it to be secondhand if possible. My first profession was as a pattern-maker and seamstress, and I am obsessed with clothes. I never really imagined I would have a dress from a big fashion house, but I was just cruising the web and it came up.”

THE SUIT

“It was custom-made by Reigner clothing. I was after a Nudi-style suit but wanted something I could collaborate on. They were really great with going back and forth until we settled on something, and I was super happy with the final result.”

MEMORABLE MOMENTS

“Our backyard leading down to the creek made a natural amphitheatre, which became our aisle and arbour. Looking back up at everyone’s faces was a really special moment. Amazingly, no one fell over down the aisle; it was a lot steeper than it looked. Tom danced down it because he forgot how to walk normally under that much pressure.  The conga line and multiple dance-offs must get a special mention.”

A WORD OF ADVICE

“Don’t think doing it at home will make it any cheaper or easier, hahah. You have to build a venue from scratch.”
