This couple’a cool cats, Roxanne and Alexander, got hitched in Melbourne with a celebration that was aesthetically dark, moody, romantic and fun – all rolled up in one. The local registry office was where the official bits took place and reception followed at Bobbie Peels (the first wedding the space had hosted, and what a banger!)

“I loved waking up that morning and going to get a coffee and a pastry with Alex. It was such a nice, intimate way to start the day, just the two of us,” shared the bride, who wore Lyleu and Michael Hill jewels with the silk gown of her dreams.

“I think the part of the day that sticks in my mind the most was walking around the city for our couples photos,” adds the groom, who opted for a P. Johnson suit and heirloom cufflinks. In a sentiment shared by many getting married, the groom told us that the lead up to the ceremony had been a blur, but in those moments with Roxanne, (and photographer Georgia Wiggs capturing the candids) everything settled. “Although Georgia was, of course, documenting the whole time, she did a wonderful job of giving us plenty of space while still being present enough to get some fantastic shots.”

Snag yourself some ideas and get swept up in Roxanne and Alexander’s love story below.

BEAUTIFUL WEDDING FLORALS & FAVOURS

“Personally, the favours were my highlight. We both love plants though and still have one that was a favour from a friend’s wedding, so we decided to go in that direction. I was set on them being native and we decided that seeds were best as, if people didn’t have space for them they could always brighten up the neighbourhood. I was absolutely floored by the work of The Beautiful Bunch. The florals were absolutely incredible and were definitely one of my favourite details. My other favourite detail was having my sister make the wedding cake. She did such an incredible job and I love that I will always be able to boast about her contribution to our day.”

BUCKING TRADITION: ENTERING THE CEREMONY TOGETHER

“I’m really glad we didn’t wait until the ceremony to see each other. The first look is such an emotional experience that it was wonderful to be able to do it at home but also to have Georgia on hand to capture the moment as well. It also meant that we could walk into the ceremony together which I really appreciated. I’ve always found it a little odd that the couple are separated before the ceremony despite this being an event that is centered around their relationship. To be able to walk down the aisle together definitely solidified that we were going into marriage together and our mutual support.”

PRIVATE, PERSONAL VOWS

“We had both written personal vows for the day but I could not get through them without bawling so on the morning of the wedding we decided to go with the standard vows. We decided that we would take a moment together in private after the wedding to read each other the personal vows we wrote. A special moment to have all to ourselves.”

 STANDOUT MELBOURNE VENDORS

Bobbie Peels were wonderfully accommodating. When we first enquired they’d never hosted a wedding so it was a learning process for everyone. And, of course, Georgia Wiggs. Neither of us are overly comfortable in front of the camera but Georgia managed to make us feel comfortable enough that we forgot there was even a camera at all with fantastic results.”
