These two gals have got it going on. Rach and Sher have been in love for two years, crushing on each other on social media before being matched by a mate. One quick convo about how against marriage they were, resulted in the surprising desire to become wives, so they got a ring the next day and Rach proposed in “the first place we caught feelings for each other and actually kissed! It was a perfect spot – that meant a lot to us. But – it was a car park – haha. We loved it.” Love them? Us too. Read on for more about their big day below. Captures by the talented Tanya Volt…
THE VENUE “Our theme was rustic, and Lachlan Old Government House House was the perfect fit. We like all things raw. We like the idea of an idea being the bounding of two individuals, rather than everyone else.”
DIY “From designing and printing our wedding cards to bridesmaid and guest gifts to decorations. Almost everything was DIY at our wedding. We made it ‘our’ wedding.”
THE DRESSES “We wanted to bring a twist to both of our outfits. I wear many dresses and pants but Sher does not wear fancy dresses. She wanted to keep that for a special day – her wedding day. So we both wore wedding dresses for our ceremony and changed into a suit for our reception.”
MEMORABLE MOMENT “Wiping Sher’s tears (the entire time), and reading Sher’s LONGGGG vows. (We read each others vows). It got to the stage that I had to stop and breathe before reading the rest of her vow. It was so long, that the whole crowd laughed along with me. [Also], writing a song and singing it to Sher for the first time.”
COOL CUSTOMS “A few readings from family. I think as a gay couple getting married and infusing in a reading from the bible during our ceremony, really meant something to me. (Corinthians chapter 13).”
A WORD OF ADVICE “Be the only two people who plan your own wedding. Bringing in more family and friends would only over-complicate your ideas! And remember – cameras are the only thing that captures the memories of that day – so get the best! We didn’t get a chance to meet our vendors (before making a decision). It was all done through instincts, and that we trusted our vendors to deliver the service that we have put the deposit down for. Lesson: Do your fair share of research and only choose the vendors that have good feedback and keep in constant contact with them.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “Had a small elopement with the people that meant the most to us. It was intimate and perfect.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “Our photographer Tanya Volt was amazing! She’s sweet and Made us feel so comfortable. Our florist, Frida – she was such a sweetheart. Our Celebrant, Leah Appleby guided us through the whole process of getting married in Australia, as we were from Singapore. It was her first Singapore couple that she was marrying. So she definitely went above and beyond researching for us.”
