For Phillip and Matthew, “marriage means spending the rest of your life with the person that you found that makes you whole”. Aww, all the feels! “It meant a lot to both of us to celebrate it with our close friends and family too,” they say of the big day.
Lens lady Kate Lund is the gal to thank for these stunning pics of the starry celestial-themed celebration, and we’re vibing the moody, dramatic atmosphere of it all – especially Phillip’s phenom night sky-inspired gown by Kate Willa. Dreamy! “From my first meeting with Kate down in Byron, I knew she was the perfect designer for my big day,” he shares.

THE VENUE “We had a shortlist of venues shortly after the engagement. Managed to misplace the list somewhere along the way, but when I started researching again The Warehouse caught my eye immediately. It looked so familiar but neither of us could place where exactly it was in The Valley. After a Google Maps search we realised it was the old Family nightclub. Such a fitting venue for a queer wedding.”
THE THEME “Our theme was supposed to tie in to our engagement party, which was going to be sunset. As a natural progression, our wedding was celestial themed. We wanted ethereal, dark and moody vibes for the day.”
FAVE DETAILS “My favourite detail was the flowers, specifically the bouquets. Main Event Weddings delivered them to us in the morning and I was immediately in love. I had only given them broad colours and images on Pinterest as my mood board but they managed to exceed what I could have imagined overall.”
THE DRESS “I had my gorgeous dress made by the fabulous Kate Willa in Byron Bay. A friend recommended her as she knew I wanted something custom and so far from the norm. I honestly loved the process with Kate, she has such a good eye for detail and design. She had the fabric hand-beaded for the dress, which made it even more magical. She continuously went above and beyond to make sure it was immaculate. Truly, there are not enough words to describe my adoration for her.”
THE SUIT “Matt’s suit was tailored by InStitchu. We had found them online, booked in for a consult and the rest was so easy. He got to pick the fabric colour, lining and even got to add special details like our initials on the inside of the lapel.”
WE’RE GLAD WE “We chose to include our little doggo, Gnocchi, in the ceremony as our ring boy. He is a special little man and means the world to us so it was only fitting that he got to share in our special day. It was very touch and go though, we had to wait until the week of the wedding to decide if he was going to be there as he is chronically unwell so we had to see if he was going to be healthy enough to participate. In the end he pulled through, and we’re both so glad we got to include him as he is an important part of our little family.
STANDOUT VENDORS “I honestly think we had a dream team, no lie! Every single one we worked with was phenomenal, helpful, attentive and kind. The team at The Warehouse, our wonderful wedding coordinator Bianca, and the whole team at Main Event Weddings are absolutely sensational. They made our dreams a reality, and we are both forever grateful to them.”
