We’re feeling even more sentimental than usual today because a couple of lovers from our very own HM community got hitched! Maddy and James, Managers of Worrowing Jervis Bay (one GEM of a venue), made it offish in the company of 150 favourites, including their toddler Oliver. Picture vows in the European-inspired gardens and dancing under the stars, surrounded by gum trees. Perfection.
Having been in Maddy’s family for 35 years and being the bride’s childhood home, the property is much more than a workplace for these two, who explain it was a “dream come true” to host their day at the venue.
Helping hundreds of couples get hitched put Maddy and James in good stead to select their vendors, and trust us, you’ll want to take note. The team included J. Andretta, InStitchu, and Bec + Bridge, as well as Garnish Catering (“the best caterer on the South Coast” according to the newlyweds), and Alex Marks (“a legend in the wedding industry” and first photographer to capture a wedding at Worrowing way back when!)
A WEDDING AT WORROWING
“Our vibe was romantic, elegant, stylish, curated and fun: ‘where effortless cottage garden meets the Australian landscape’. Every detail reflected us as a couple and our family history at Worrowing, inspired by the expansive English gardens and the natural, native Australian beauty of the property.”
THE DRESS
“My gown was from J. Andreatta Couture Bridal Atelier in Sydney, designed with Jess, the head designer. Jess and the team were incredible to work with, and I couldn’t have been happier with my custom Love in Portofino gown. Jess and the team ensured my gown fit perfectly and was designed with romantic details featuring a silk organza rose print with ivory and blush underlay. I also had a stunning cathedral-length veil, which added to the dramatic effect of the gown. I felt absolutely beautiful and the dress was so light and fun to wear – perfect for a March wedding.”
SUIT SHOPPING
“James made the decision to go with InStitchu quickly, as they custom-tailor suits with the ability to custom-design your own suit with premium fabrics, etc. Having a custom suit also meant the suit was well-fitted. James and his groomsmen all chose their own style of internal lining (some with fun prints) and each had their name and our wedding date stitched inside.”
REFERENCES
“Over the years, developing our property into a wedding venue and having a love for the wedding industry, styling and fashion, Hello May was always my go-to for all things wedding inspiration. I loved buying the magazines and wedding special editions and have kept some special copies to look back on! We also [dove] into Instagram and Pinterest for wedding inspiration; however, generally overall we wanted to ensure our day was true to us in both look and feel, and we chose our suppliers around who we connected with… Every supplier we chose held a special place in our story, and many have become dear friends over the years.”
FIRST WEDDING DANCE
“We weren’t big on the idea of a traditional ‘first dance’ and wanted a fun way to get everyone up dancing together with us to kick off the dancefloor – so our vision was to have a surprise roaming band (Hot Potato Band)… The guests were all so surprised and had the best time getting up to dance with us. James and I shared some moments dancing together, and the band had everyone dancing around us – it was so special and a highlight of our wedding.”
STANDOUT VENDORS
“Garnish Catering – Jo is phenomenal, and there is a reason Garnish is the best caterer on the South Coast! Jo helped us design a curated menu with special menu items such as gin and beetroot-cured kingfish, roaming canapes, a fresh oyster bar, and an incredible curated Parisian-inspired grazing table with huge wheels of cheese (Jo is a master at grazing tables)! Dinner was a shared banquet, followed by a late-night feast – glazed ham and woodfired bread with homemade condiments. Jo ensured all guests were well fed, and we had so many compliments on how incredible the food was!”
