They say to Do It Yourself but let’s be honest, most people usually have a helping hand. For Leilani, one of five children and Nic, one of six, having their own tribe certainly helped lighten the load.
Leilani, who wore a breathtaking Claire Pettibone gown tells us, “we undertook a lot of DIY projects including making our own apple cider from scratch (pressing the apples and all), making about 40 metres of bunting, making lots of jam jar lanterns, collecting 100s of small and large plates and vases from op shops, vintage markets etc, sewing our own table cloths, table runners and napkins…” the list goes on but we’re already exhausted!
Their “crazy bohemian family wedding” was held at Allenvale – “the Great Ocean Road’s best kept secret” and shot by photographer Johanna Macdonald who managed to capture some amazing moments, despite the heavy rain during the ceremony.
“When I finally reached Nic and touched his hand. BOOM lightning cracked, thunder roared and the heavens opened up”, says Leilani. “Nic and I had to smile at each other as we huddled together under the umbrellas trying to figure out what to do next. All I could think was… now this is the type of crazy wedding I was meant to have.”
