For Leanne and Adam (or Abe as he’s more affectionately known) a four year engagement culminated in one of history’s most outstanding, vintage inspired weddings. Captured by Lucy Spartalis of She Takes Pictures He Makes Films, they chose West Beach Bathers Pavillion in St. Kilda, Victoria for it’s art deco details and incredible view.
“We were aiming for an art deco / Old Hollywood inspired affair so our guests felt like they had stepped back in time. We used deco motifs like the crescent moon and clams throughout our wedding to complement the navy ocean and twinkling gold stars surrounding the venue, which was also the inspiration for the colours we chose,” says Leanne, a vintage hairstylist who picked a show stopping sequin gown for the occasion (which she somehow managed to keep hidden).
“Adam didn’t want any clues as to what I was wearing and you can imagine with a dress made up of squillions of sequins, you’re bound to lose one or two along the way! Whenever he was out, I would case the place for rogue sequins to make sure I wouldn’t get sprung. As it turns out, he had no idea at all and never noticed a single one!”
As for tradition, Leanne’s Nan made a Sri Lankan love cake’ while West Beach knocked it out of the park when it came to creating an entirely vegetarian menu. “… even our most carnivorous guests have commented on how delicious everything was!”
Other key vendors, including their band The Royal Jellies also did an exceptional job, making Leanne and Abe’s day very stress free. “We were really lucky – they were all so awesome to work with – accommodating to our wishes, down to earth and really did all go above and beyond!”
