You know we love us some high school sweethearts here at Hello May, and Jordan and Vaughn are the ultimate – together since Year 11, Vaughan asked Jordan to be his girlfriend by “putting a Burger Ring on my finger and we’ve been together ever since. We’ve moved from Bunbury, to Perth to Sydney and back in that time,” the bride shares. Fourteen years later, this pair got married at the Quarry Amphitheatre in City Beach, WA, and the theme became a kind of “boujee pink disco”, which Jordan, who runs a marketing and design company, and Vaughn, a mechanical engineer, “weren’t mad about it.” And same, guys, same. You’re going to want to scroll for all the epic photos by one of our faves, Lysh from Hey Babe Photography, and for gown inspo, courtesy of Luv Bridal.
THE VIBE “We wanted a whole heap of colour, fun and party vibes. I worked really closely with Jess and Zoe (stylist and florist of Feted Events and Lotte & Aud) to bring this vision to life – and they nailed it. Any decision making we did was always about whether it would make for a good day for us and our guests – we knew we absolutely wanted a band to make sure the dancefloor went off. I LOVED reds and pinks and how bold they look, and we knew that the venue was really natural with the stone walls and greenery, so we wanted the things we were adding to really pop and stand out. I guess without meaning to, the theme almost became a boujee pink disco? And we weren’t mad about it!”
FAVE DEETS “I will never stop talking about how amazing our flowers looked. Everything Lotte & Aud pulled together just looked SO, so good, but the thing that I loved most was the hanging wooden chandeliers with the florals (especially the one with the mirror balls over the dance floor!). It just looked so chic but so fun at the same time. And THE SHAGGY CAKE from Cakes by Sarah! Funnily enough, I didn’t even get to have a bit on the night (we skipped the cake cutting part because we didn’t want to stop the dance floor that was going off!), but it was such a cool cake.”
THE DRESS “It was from Luv Bridal. The dress I ended up with was definitely not what I thought I’d end up in! I imagined something a lot more boho with no train, and definitely no bows. But when you know, you know! I ended up trying this dress on because we had already picked a few and there was one spot left, so we grabbed it ‘just to see what something different might look like’ and as soon as I put it on, I felt amazing. The curtains were opened and straightaway my sister cried (which set my mum off) and it was pretty clear it was the winner. I loved the simplicity of the dress and how timeless it was. Funnily enough, I also loved how ‘traditional’ it was. I think Vaughan was half expecting me to walk down in a glitter rainbow jumpsuit, so I knew he would be shocked too. I still got the glitter though, when Luv Bridal handed me a glittery veil to complete the look!”
DIY “I did all the signage, menus, boards.. basically any design was done by me! For any friend that’s gotten married it’s always been my present to them to do all their design (I think I’ve done about five now) and it’s always such a fun way to be involved. But, it was very different doing my own and being so close to it! It took a few different directions (and a few comments from Vaughan that it was all “very pink”), but it looked awesome, and even Vaughan admitted the pink worked a treat.”
STANDOUT VENDOR “Alysha (our photographer of Hey Babe Photography). She’s actually based in Melbourne but was advertising around Australia as she was doing a road trip – I saw the ad and thought it was a mistake seeing where she was based, but messaged anyway in the hope she might fly over, and the rest is history! Words cannot begin to describe how much we love Lysh (as did everyone else at the wedding). She is so insanely talented and as soon as we jumped on that first Zoom call I just knew we were kindred spirits, solidified when a margarita kit rocked up on my door #soulmates. Her photos (as you can see!) just captured the day so perfectly, and we felt like we were just hanging with one of our best mates all day.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “We did cocktail-style instead of sit-down – it made people move around and talk to more people, and it meant we had 14 different rounds of food (WAY more than we needed!) which catered to everyone rather than having to make the big decision of the 1 – 2 main dishes normally served at a wedding. It kept the night really informal and more of a party vibe, which we were super happy with. It also took a lot of stress off us of having to figure out seating charts and chase RSVPs and shift things around if people pulled out.”
