Following a little Melbourne vay-cay, Holly and Dan were road tripping back to WA. While in the Warrnambool area, Holly paid a visit to Ivory Bride, a local wedding dress boutique. Were the couple engaged yet? No. But the boutique was the closest to stock a dream frock Holly had spotted prior on TikTok. So, while in Warrnambool, why not?! The dress was a winner and despite Holly’s bling-less finger, Dan convinced his bride-to-be that it was a good idea to say yes to the dress. Just as well as too, as little did Holly know, Dan was to propose just a couple of days later.
A successful trip indeed, that’s how Holly came home with a wedding dress AND a fiancé – two (love)birds with one (engagement)stone you might say.
Below we chat with the newlyweds (and gaze lovingly at their wedding photos). Channelling “Valentine’s Day disco at sunset” energy, the pair picked Lily Farm House as their location, also calling on “totally outstanding” celebrant Love By Larissa, and photographer Peggy Saas, who brought a candid approach to capturing the celebration.
A WHOLESOME HOME-TURNED-WEDDING VENUE IN BASKERVILLE, WA
“We saw a few venues but found we were experiencing a lot of the same – too rustic, too hotel-conferencey, too beachy. We were set on wanting a venue where we loved the indoor wet-weather option as much as we loved the outdoors. Our search led us to Lily Farm House after we felt the other venues we looked at just weren’t quite our vibe. Walking into Lily Farm House and meeting the Hoffman family, whose family home it was before they turned it into a wedding venue, we knew immediately, this was it! The rammed earth walls, combined with the polished concrete floor, thoughtful lighting and subtle nods to a mid-century vibe, surrounded by beautiful gardens and lush green grass had us feel right at home, and we immediately gave each other that look – this was the one!”
FLORAL PERFECTION & CROWD-PLEASING FAVOURS
“Karla from Franc Flora did an absolutely incredible job of taking my vision and enacting it even better than I could have ever imagined! The flowers were complete perfection and really set the tone for the entire day and vibe. Karla is the one of the most talented creative geniuses I have ever met, and she is also a beautiful person inside and out! Favours – I’m a pretty creative person and was super proud of our DIY tambourines, they were so much fun and our guests loved them! They ended up being a fun, interactive thing that people could take to the dancefloor, use after speeches, etc etc. Not one tambourine was left behind that night!”
WHERE THE COUPLE FOUND WEDDING INSPIRATION
“We found most of our vendors via the most iconic wedding mag to ever exist – Hello May! The real wedding features were monumental in finding the perfect vendors for us to realise the vision we had for our special day. I had every Hello May mag (including older editions) I could possibly get my hands on!”
A (SECOND) FIRST DANCE
“Knowing how quickly the day can go, we made sure to have our own private late night dance on the dancefloor (in addition to our first dance earlier!), where Dan grabbed me to slow dance to ‘22’ by Taylor Swift – it was iconic and so special. It’s so easy to get split up from each other with all the happenings of the day and chatting with guests, I was so glad we got to experience that special moment!”
STANDOUT Perth CELEBRANT & Photographer
“Our celebrant, Larissa (Love By Larissa) was totally outstanding. Making the decision to have her stay on as our MC was a brilliant one – she fit in perfectly with our family and friends, everyone thought we’d known her for years! Larissa understood our humour and vibe perfectly and matched us. She wrote us the most beautiful ceremony with the perfect balance of laughs and emotional moments. She’s a gem! I’d admired the work of our photographer, Peggy Saas, for quite some time. I loved the candid nature of her shots, being a documentarian myself, and her obsession with colour – Peggy was a match made in heaven for us! She’s also a gorgeous person who was so much fun to have around.”
More good stuff
