Shoutout to the shy guys – we see you, we love you and we beg you, ask that cute human you’ve had your eye on for their number! If today’s groom Mike’s friends hadn’t approached Gen on his behalf, these two may never have had the stellar wedding we’re sharing with you today… Luckily, they did. “We have been together for almost seven years now,” spills the bride. “Mike was my morning coffee guy, working at a café, and I was waiting for the day when he would ask for my number. Almost six months later, one of his co-workers ended up asking for mine for him!” Phew!
And it was all romance from there, folks. Mike popped the question (with a little help from the couple’s fur baby) and just six months later, in front of just a handful of guests, they made it official (with a gorgeous ring from our friends at Grew & Co sealing the deal). Enough from us – let’s dive into all the juicy details!
THE PROPOSAL “It was Christmas Eve and we were both getting ready for a family dinner. Mike called me out into the lounge, where he had dressed up our fur cat baby Howard in a cute bow tie. Gushing over how gorgeous he looked, I noticed a ring around his collar and Mike crying. He popped the question and I said yes!”
THE VENUE “We had seen images on Instagram of Eos and how beautiful it was and just thought it suited our elopement vibe perfectly! The Eos was a fairly new addition to Adelaide but just oozed a contemporary and modern feel.”
THE THEME “I have forever been in love with the blush and red colour combo so that really outlined the vibe of the day.”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “Our vow cards were really some of our favourite details of the day. Mike designed a special mark including both of our names and a love heart ampersand. The fact that he did these himself really meant a whole lot. We also loved our flowers! The bouquet by my friend Casey Hull was also absolutely gorgeous and was beyond my expectations!”
THE DRESS “My dress was from Zimmermann and was a bit of a quick find. I went in with my mum, tried it on and thought it was the one! I had a last-minute crisis of confidence but with big earrings and my amazing hair by Eliza from The Vine, I was glowing.”
THE SUIT “Mike had the most amazing help from the guys at Calibre. He had already bought his suit for our original wedding date but we had to postpone. He had been hitting the gym during that time and lost a bit of weight, and the suit ended up too big! They helped him swap the suit for him so that he felt amazing.”
LITTLE LOL “When our celebrant Lauren rocked up, we were wearing the same earrings! She very kindly took them off so we weren’t matching, which I know killed her deep inside as earrings are her thing.”
RESOURCES “We found Photography By Emma Faith via Instagram and loved the light, breezy, happy documentary style of her photos. We met with her and absolutely loved her vibe so we knew from there that she was the one for us. We got in touch with Lauren The Celebrant via I Do Drive Thru Weddings and she absolutely made the day! She was hilarious and had just the right energy for our intimate setting. My dad was absolutely raving about her afterwards. And Eliza from The Vine Hair Salon is one of my good friends. I go to her for my weekly blow dry so couldn’t imagine anyone else doing my hair for my big day!”
STANDOUT VENDORS “We really connected with them all! It helped that some of them were already our friends so even though we were only having a small wedding, it still felt like we had them involved in our big day. Eliza putting on a wedding playlist in the salon really was a highlight of my morning.”
WE’RE GLAD WE… “ended up having the small ceremony. It guaranteed that we could get married in the COVID climate and it just felt really intimate and special.”
If you’re yet to get a ring to, ahem, put on it, check out the amazing pieces by our pals over at Grew & Co – trust us, they know a thing or two about beautiful bling.
