These two creatives both work in the film and television industry (in production and hair and makeup, no less), an online dating success story that started back in 2011. Impressive! But back to the wedding… “Our style is a bit eclectic,” says the bride, who wore Rue De Seine from The Bridal Atelier in Sydney, along with Grew & Co rings. “But the main focus was to make everything work within our colour palette, which is where the cohesion came from.” Photographer, Zoe Morley, was the talent who caught it all on camera, so scroll down for all the details…

LITTLE LOL “This isn’t so much funny ‘haha’, but funny in my delusion. I decided to make Emma’s bridal gift, a custom denim jacket that incorporated hand painted type and embroidery- neither of which I’ve done before… Long story short, after a 12-hour sewing and painting session, involving many stabbed fingers and paint coated hands, Emma’s jacket was completed. The final result is great, but I will not be taking orders.”

THE VENUE “We chose Sergeants Mess after having visited a number of venues. We went with them as they had the perfect combination of location, price and capacity. They were also very willing to customise their menus and offerings. They really went out of their way to help accommodate everything we wanted to do. We were able to chop and change up until the last minute and they were very responsive to any questions we had.”

DIY “We did a lot ourselves. This was partly as cost savings, but also because we had a very specific vision of how we wanted these elements to look. I wanted to make my own cake and Max designed all the print collateral for the wedding. We created the tassel wall for the photo wall, which involved hand making 400 tissue paper tassels by hand. And we also did our own Lolly Bar.”

THE DRESS “My dress is called ‘The Avril’ by Rue De Seine and I had been eyeing it off since the day I got engaged. I was lucky when I found out the designer of the dress happened to be in store and she did my fitting! Given how long I had been looking at this dress online, I’m so glad that once I had it on, I felt even better in it, than I did just looking at it.”

MEMORABLE MOMENT “Watching Emma come down the aisle, putting that ring on her finger, the incredible speeches everyone made. When people say it’s the best day of your life, it couldn’t be more true. Also, Emma’s bridesmaid doing her entire speech as a rap, with our wedding band lending her a beat- a complete surprise to everyone.”

A WORD OF ADVICE “A wedding should be fun, not something people endure. Think of fun small details that can keep the day entertaining. If you want details that people will remember, having amazing flowers really helps lift what ever space you have for your wedding. Our florist, Jacqueline Blooms (also a close friend) did an amazing job with the flower arrangements. Apparently people competing to take home the centrepieces! Also not everyone is a dancer, so having games is a crowd pleaser (Giant Connect Four and Giant Jenga were a real crowd pleaser – there’s nothing like a bit of healthy competition at a wedding).”

WE’RE GLAD WE… “Had games for people to play if they didn’t feel like dancing, we are glad we went with a live band instead of just a DJ. We are glad that we decided to do a lot of stuff ourself – making the tassel wall, our own wedding cake, invites etc it makes it that much more special. Plus it meant we got to brag on the day! The only thing we wished we had done was filmed our entrance – which was to Star Wars theme song, given our wedding was on May 4th.”
