We try not to be too sickly sweet here at Hello May but we have to admit, these guys had us gushing! After nine years together, Tom finally popped the question following a romantic dinner-date at Movida.

Their mutual love of good food and good beer made Bright Brewery in Victoria an easy choice when it came to selecting a venue. Em tells us, “The Bright Brewery made a special brew of a dark IPA (one of our favourite styles) just for our wedding. We called it the “Mr & Mrs Boozehound”.

For Tom however, nothing was quite as good as seeing Em for the first time. “Em looked stunning, more stunning than I could ever have imagined and her smile was as large as a have ever seen it!” says Tom. Em recalls, “I walked up behind him and waited for him to turn around. That moment when he did was exquisite. I didn’t realise I had been holding my breath until then! The emotion on his face and what I was feeling was electric. It was the most beautiful moment”.

Another very special part of their day for Em was getting to wear her Grandmother’s wedding dress. “I was unbelievably lucky that my Mum had kept my grandma’s wedding dress (which my Mum also wore to her wedding). My grandma is no longer with us and I absolutely loved that it felt like she was with me for the day. Due to its age, it was very fragile and I needed it to be altered… Reingard from L’Amour Bridal Boutique did such an amazing job of making it fit me perfectly, while also preserving the lovely lace. It was absolutely perfect!” says Em.

Their ceremony, held at Wandiligong Hall and captured by talented photographer Luke Chisholm was a beautiful moment for the couple and a lovely sneak peak for guests at some of the DIY decorations Em and Tom had made for the reception, including the table settings, seating chart, paper pom-poms, platters and “soap confetti” – an affordable and biodegradable find. Instead of bonboniere however, they opted to make donations to the Australian Cancer Research Foundation – an idea we’re certainly saluting!
