Elisha and Chris are our kind of couple. No bells and whistles – just two people in love, through and through (first featured in issue 14). “Despite being full of a cold and with a house full of kids, Chris put my favourite song on the record player, stole a moment alone with me and asked me to be his wife. I loved that it was causal and simple. He’d been warned that there were to be no grand gestures!”
Planning their day in just six months, the pair says they were lucky that everything ran smoothly and finding their venue was easy-peasy. “Chris gets his coffee from Chez Dre every day and has for the past three years. It was an obvious choice for him. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. The courtyard, iron gates, the pepper tree. Chez Dre had never done a private evening event before, so we were over the moon when they consented,” says Elisha, who threw caution (and her spreadsheet) to the wind by taking the nontraditional route and greeting her guests before the ceremony.
“I think this reinforced the tone of a relaxed and intimate wedding. It certain calmed my nerves before saying I Do’ in front of them all,” she tells us, adding that their “reasonably casual” celebration didn’t include a full-on bridal party. “I guess the one thing that drove our day was ensuring that the kids were a big part of it. We didn’t want to have a big wedding party, just flower girls and page boys.”
Knowing that she’d wanted a Houghton gown, Elisha made one appointment with the fab team at The Bridal Atelier. “I walked into the store and there was the dress! It was meant to be!”
Even with a a fair bit of DIY projects under their belts (i.e. bonbonnieres and designing and packaging the invites), this cool couple confesses they took an ultra-relaxed approach to… just about everything! “Things instantly fell in to place. We didn’t have long to plan our wedding, but were fortunate enough to secure every vendor we wanted (which admittedly were few). Maybe we were just super lucky. We also whole heartedly trusted the vendors we selected. We gave them inspiration’ but ultimately they had creative control. This definitely paid off – Everything was pretty perfect for us,” say Elisha and Chris, having enlisted only four vendors for their day of love (including legend Lucy Spartalis from She Take Pictures He Makes Films).
“They all went above and beyond!! And we couldn’t have been happier with our wedding,” says the bride, now hitched to the ever-so-cheeky Chris who quotes funny man Vince Vaughn when describing the tried and true meaning of marriage: “Congratulations, you get one vagina for the rest of your life… Ha!
