Despite hailing from the urban Melbourne scene, Christy and Troy’s Byron Bay wedding rocked the tropical Palm Springs vibe, complete with 40 pineapples as decoration transported from Yeppoon, the bride’s hometown.
Under the sparkly Bangalow night sky at Cedia House through a transparent marquee hired from Mullumbimby Hire, the couple wed and partied, and continued to celebrate the entire weekend. Fern and Stone Photography was there to capture all the fun-loving feels.
“The non-negotiables were sunshine, Aperol, live music, great food and a three day affair with all of our favourite people. We started the weekend with Margaritas at the Mez Club in Byron with 60 people on the Friday, and finished with Bloody Marys and one big party at the property on the Sunday,” says Christy. (You know your party’s giving a hella good time when your bridesmaids are cartwheeling in their white designer dresses as the oldies look on with laughter.)
Christy, a digital marketing manager knew just where to find her vendors for the weekend, despite planning it from a distance. But it was the wedding dress shopping that caused a bit of angst, eventually leading her to listen to her gut and deciding on a beautiful gold gown from One Day Bridal – a perfect stand-out against her white-clad gal pals.
“To be honest, wedding dresses scared the hell out of me. I knew I wanted something a little less traditional, but I wasn’t certain of what… I started to go down the route of getting something made until I made a spontaneous decision to one Saturday morning (about one year out) to visit the wedding dress magicians at One Day Bridal in South Melbourne. The Delphi Gown’ was everything I didn’t know I wanted. I had that feeling, the holy smokes this is IT’ feeling. It was the fastest most irrational 30 minute decision I had ever made – but without a slither of doubt, it was the right one.”
Looking back on the day, the bride suggests without a flinch, “Get a videographer. Yes they cost a little bit, but receiving ours back from Yellowbull Weddings was the best thing ever. You can’t remember all those moments, and as good as photos are, hearing snippets of the speeches and seeing your guests talk and dance around you is so wonderful to have.”
