When Cheryl embarked on a 12 month overseas adventure, she never thought she’d meet (let alone marry) a local pastor. “I, Cheryl, never through I would date a pastor!” she admits.

Originally from California, it didn’t take long for pastor Sam to persuade her to stay in Sydney, where together they organised their ideal wedding at The Studio – a creative workshop space in Alexandria, Sydney.

“We found The Studio also known as The School and fell in love – we loved the idea of having a blank canvas and being able to do whatever we liked. I wanted it to be simple and green, green, green!”

Being friends with a tonne of creatives (including florists Esther and Naomi from The Sisters) made bringing their vision to life a breeze – unless you include their DIY decorations. “Shibori napkins. What a project. It took me hours…” says Cheryl. “They were beautiful though.”

It’s impossible to argue that her dress by Nelder Jones wasn’t beautiful too. “I had my dress made – I had three ideas in mind and had that put into one dress! The dress makers were amazing!!! It was prettier than I could have imagined. I always wanted a short dress and I loved the detail of the beading.”

Another thing that set their day apart, aside from their incredible photographer Rachel Kara, ten gorgeous flower girls and tropical greenery, was their ceremony song choice. “We walked out of the ceremony to Tupac, California Love, that was fun!” says Cheryl, adding that she loved having the ceremony and reception in the same space.

“It flowed and people seemed to have a great time hanging in between, catching up, listening to live music and taking wedding photos. It was definitely the vibe we wanted!” Sounds like she’s living the Australian dream.
