According to Cass, it’s an Irish tradition that the allusive date of February 29th is the only day women are allowed to ask men to marry them. On this exact date, during a dinner party with 28 of their pals, Cass stood up, said her piece, and asked Tim for his hand in marriage…”And in front of everyone he said no! Then he got down on one knee, presented me with a ring and asked me. It was casual and hilarious, which was the way we are, I’d suppose. I asked him first though!”
Having spent the last 7 years together (6 of which included joint cat ownership), the couple opted for a short 8 month engagement, Cass adding, “”I don’t believe in long engagements. I mean Barbie and Ken were engaged for decades and they broke up.”
With a lead up to the day including a last minute space change (due to rainy weather), a quick DIY project involving a hacked off rosemary bush and a hell-of-a-lot of Roman inspired symbolism, their day came together with colour, a lot’a love and laughter.”I live for Ancient Rome, ” says Cass whose Master at University was on Roman Women Dress Culture. “Everything was drenched in Roman symbolism. From the florals, dress and ceremony.”
Standouts of the day included the incredible force behind I Got You Babe Weddings, Cass adding, “Lilli (the photographer) was like a ghost. You hardly noticed her snapping away. I liked that because it was free and captured candid moments. And she took a photo of our cat, Norma-Jean. Honestly the photo made her look so skinny and young!”
After falling in love with the floral print fabric from Dolce and Gabbana, Cass enlisted the help from PQ Fashions to recreate the perfect dress, as well as the hand crafted and died veil.
We asked this cheeky duo what marriage means to them, and we’re loving their answer…”It’s a piece of paper. We celebrated with a big party when we both turned 25 and combined health insurance. That seemed like more of a major commitment then. The wedding was more of a public declaration of our love. Marriage is pretty much texting each other from the bathroom asking what the cat is up to.”
