When we read about these two lovebirds, to say they are creative is an understatement. Carly is a wedding photographer (of Carly Tia Photography) and Levi an illustrator and author of children’s books, and they basically DIY’d their entire wedding- even the tables were made by old decking that was lying around. Epic! Jess from Brown Paper Parcel was there to capture it all on camera, so scroll down for the details and their gorgeous pics…
THE VENUE “We had just moved into our own home and decided that it would be nice to have the reception at home so we could just be ourselves. It had everything we needed and we only wanted a small wedding of 25 people. So that was easy. We did want the ceremony to be amongst the trees though. So we went on a few walks around our area and found a nice secluded forest that was easily accessible and had a rogue ceremony with no styling or set-up, just the big trees surrounding us.”
THE THEME “As a wedding photographer, it was important for us to not get caught up in the details as we wanted it to be easy for everyone and just to enjoy a celebration of our love and have both our families and friends in the one place. We put more importance on having a nice time rather than doing the things that we felt were necessary when planning a wedding. We made sure there was good food and a few drinks, but didn’t go too far with it all. So maybe our theme was simple?”
FAVOURITE DETAILS “I love that Levi did a small drawing for our invites and my sister, Kym and I had a flower frenzy the day before the wedding. We had a nice morning at the Roacklea Flower Markets and put everything together that afternoon. I didn’t have a plan for flowers or styling. We just knew that you can’t go wrong with a few native flowers and gum leaves.”
DIY “Our whole wedding was thrown together in our backyard, so it was pretty much all DIY except for the food. Our tables were actually made by Levi’s parents who used some old decking that was lying around. The day before, we had all hands on deck to put the lights up and my sister and I set the table on the morning of the wedding too. I think it was manageable because we decided to keep things pretty simple.”
THE DRESS “I loved my wedding dress so much! I tried on bridal gowns, but I’m a pretty casual person and I felt funny in most of them. One week before the wedding I was walking passed Zimmermann and thought I’d take a quick look. The ring tie dress was the only one I tried on and it felt so good to wear so I went with it.”
STANDOUT VENDORS “I loved the natural hair and makeup of Emily K Hair and her calming presence on the morning of the wedding. We love our photos so much- I found Jess from Brown Paper Parcel via Hello May and I’ve always loved her photography style. She has given us the most beautiful photographs- it really was like having an old friend around, she’s the best. Eat Drink Catering were brilliant- we had so many comments on how good the food and service was and I just love their styling and platters. Also, Cara from Modern Love Ceremonies was just perfect. She really knows what she’s doing and her delivery of our ceremony was fun and heartfelt at the same time.”
