You know you’re meeting a flexible couple of people when four months before their planned wedding in Melbourne, BOOM… the venue cancels and everything needs to be rearranged.
This is how it went for Cara and Joel, who thinking on their toes, decided to fly across to Queenstown and elope with their family and a handful of friends. Luckily for them, their original booking with photographer Lilli from I Got You Babe Weddings was honoured and so she too, packed up and travelled from Melbourne to Queenstown to capture the couple’s laid back affair.
“Our photo shoot was pretty entertaining, Lilli had us head to the top of a mountain, run through fields, climb fences, scramble through scrub and wade into a river. We rejoined the party slightly disheveled and my dress now sports a few grass stains. The photos are incredible so it was all worth it,” laughs Cara, adding that in the end, they only dealt with four vendors which made the day so easy.
“Sherwood (the venue) put on a beautiful spread for us, providing each guest with a welcome note and the wedding favour in their room on arrival. They printed the menus with gorgeous gold foil graphics and decorated the tables beautifully. The food and wine was incredible and the best part was that we just had to turn up!”
In her immanently relaxed way, Cara tried on three dresses at Camilla and Marc in her lunch break, and sent snaps of herself in them to her sister and three best friends, before visiting the store a couple days later to make the purchase. “They were the only three dresses I tried on, job done!,” Cara declares.
To tie her pared pack, sophisticated look together, Cara wore beautiful Yuko Fujita earrings and purchased a Lucy Folk wedding band for the ceremony.
Walking down the aisle together to meet Cara’s dad and Joel’s brother who acted as the celebrants for the day, the couple wed in the most serendipitously intimate way. Although a tough decision to not have so many of their favourite people there on their big day, the couple agree that “in the end it was the most us’ day that we could have possibly envisioned and I can’t imagine doing it any other way.”
