Caity and Grady know how to put on one hell-of-a-good time. The loved-up retro hullabaloo in Victoria you see before you is what the pair dubbed their wedding ‘after party’. You see, they actually became hubs and wife a couple of days prior with a relaxed, cosy ceremony at Melbourne’s Registry office.
If you can believe it, they spent only seven months pulling this party together, which was hosted at country Victoria’s Koroit Theatre. But that was “plenty of time”, thanks to the help of friends and family (legends!) As for the theme? Well, Grady and Caity just wanted to be surrounded by things that bring them joy! Think cup’o’noodles, Japanese snacks, sake, retro decor, a disco ball and a life-like cutout of the couple’s cat. We love it. We love it. WE LOVE IT!
Scroll on for more happy snaps, the story behind C&G’s iconic outfits, and the couple’s glowing testimonial for their photographer Sheree Dubois.
WE’RE GLAD WE…
“… got married with no crowd at the registry, followed by a beautiful dinner at Gimlet in Melbourne. We were relaxed, loved up and spent every moment together. [For the ‘after party’, we’re] so happy we had a cup noodle bar! As cool and colourful as they looked, they were the perfect late-night snack for everyone and such a novelty. Noodles on the dancefloor were a vibe! [Lastly, that] we flew out for our honeymoon the next night, which was very old school of us and the best way to decompress. Again, with a lot of wonderful help to make it happen!”
THE VENUE
“We originally wanted to have the party at our place in Koroit, but due to unpredictable weather, we thought a more solid venue would be less stressful. We fell in love with the Koroit Theatre for all its quirks, including the ’50s-style bar in the foyer and heritage-listed projector room! It was the only alternative we needed to consider!”
THE DRESS
“I have always wanted a Celia B dress, as they are vibrant and scream PARTY! I actually emailed them as soon as we were engaged, asking when the next collection was out, which was the following week! I was tossing up between the short and long version of the design, but am so happy I went with the mini in the end. I had it altered locally to fit my shape, and it turned out a dream! I loved the pops of colour in the flowers, the fluff detail around the edges of the sleeves and skirt, the keyhole neckline and of course, the bell sleeves!”
THE SUIT
“We ordered a custom embroidered jacket made by Bespoke Addiction (Etsy store) in India, who left the design work up to us! We wanted Grady to have all of his favourite things on the suit jacket, so on Canva, [we] added a bowl of noodles, a surfboard, a wave and a cartoon illustration of our cat into the mix. We were so pleased with the communication throughout the process, and it turned out even better than imagined!”
LITTLE LOL
“Grady was stung by a bee on the neck around 15 minutes into our professional photos with Sheree. He took it like an absolute champion! If the bee had stung me, it would have been a full-on bridal meltdown!”
THE TUNES
“Our first dance was a mixture of the following songs: Rapper’s Delight (Sugar Hill Gang), Cosmic Girl (Jamiroquai), and Ready for the Floor (Hot Chip)!”
STANDOUT VENDOR
“Sheree Dubois, our beautiful photographer, captured the night incredibly! She rolled with the weather, the bee sting, the multiple family shots I requested, including with my Japanese host family and embraced the million peace signs that were posing in front of her. Sheree met my questions with warmth in the lead up to our day and made us ease into our celebration, which is exactly what we needed.”
