Alex and Ash’s three-day “country-chic” wedding fest was the culmination of three years of planning, and both bride and groom say the celebration at Jervis Bay’s The Woods Farm was bliss. “Our favourite moment was the ‘first look’ – it was the realisation of our happy ever after. It was such a beautiful moment, and at first glance, our hearts were full.” Aww, you guys! Luckily for us (and you!), one of our fave lens ladies Lucy of Translucent Photography took some epic snaps, which we’re sharing here today. Scroll down to see, right after you dive into what the happy newylweds had to say…

THE VENUE “Living in Canberra, we spent quite a bit of time exploring the NSW South coast with friends and family. We love the South Coast’s picturesque white sand and turquoise water, but knew we didn’t want a beach wedding. Being animal lovers and having friends and family travelling from overseas to celebrate our wedding, our ideal venue was country-chic with onsite accomodation for our nearest and dearest. When we saw The Woods Farm, we knew it ticked all the boxes. It has incredible accommodation and facilities, a variety of farm animals (rescues included), is close to the beach and has a list of optional extras to create a dream wedding.”

THE SUIT “I purchased my suit from M.J. Bale. I booked an appointment for a custom suit and the overall experience was sensational. The M.J. Bale team had books of fabrics, buttons and designs which enabled me to design my dream suit. I also selected the option to embroider the inside of the suit with Alex’s and my initials, and our wedding date, which provided the final touch.”

FAVE DEETS “Before our wedding we fed The Woods Farm animals with our guests and did an on-site yoga class (we went to one each to make sure the first time we saw each other was in the Bush Chapel). This set the mood for the day ad was so much fun. And the bridal bouquet and floral installation in The Bush Chapel, which was breathtaking. Both were perfect and were more than we had envisaged after providing inspo pictures to our incredible florists Ivy Lane Collective.”

TOUCH OF TRADITION “To pay homage to Alex’s Swiss heritage, at our pre-wedding dinner we played The Nut Game. This entailed a number of guests putting a walnut in their mouth and singing Waltzing Matilda. At the completion of each round, those who successfully sang the song had to put another walnut in their mouth. The singing was hilarious and the winner was crowned after they fit five walnuts in their mouth and delivered a perfect rendition of the song.”

LITTLE LOL “One of my irrational fears is giant crickets. During the night photos, we walked through the tall grass to get the perfect silhouette picture, back-lit by our incredible videographer’s headlights. As we were returning to the reception venue, I saw movement in Alex’s dress. I lifted the dress to examine what it was and saw five or so crickets quickly making their way up the towards Alex’s body. Alex is petrified of bugs and to avoid a screaming match in the bush, I told her they were leaves. Here I am on my knees in a wedding suit, in the bush at night, frantically separating layers of tulle to chase down the crickets before they got to Alex first. Luckily there was an open bar waiting  to console me.”

STANDOUT VENDORS “Standing at the pointy end of the camera can be daunting, but Lucy of Translucent Photography made us feel so comfortable and at ease. Lucy also managed the chaos of the friends and family pictures and made sure we stuck to the timeline. She is also an exceptionally gifted photographer and we are in love with her pictures. And our videographer Mitch Hickman Films – Mitch also made us feel completely comfortable and captured us authentically. Our wedding videos are a professional production and we are enamoured with his work.”
