In 2013 Alison met Brad, and exactly three years later- to the day, the pair exchanged vows.
For a birthday getaway Brad surprised Al with a weekend in the Blue Mountains. Unbeknownst to her, Brad had enlisted the help of two friends to decorate their treehouse retreat with flowers and tea lights whilst the couple were out at dinner. Al explains, “When we arrived back I was blindfolded and led into the Treehouse, when I was allowed to take the blindfold off Brad was on one knee with an espresso martini in his hand! It’s a personal joke between Brad and I.” Of course she said yes (so would we if an espresso martini is involved!)
Not ones to take the easy path, the lead-up to their wedding included a renovation of their entire house, which meant not having a kitchen or functioning bathroom for seven months! “It was a nightmare to try and eat well! We’d crouch around a little gas camping stove most nights and then have to eat in bed…and we showered at the gym!”
Having fallen in love with the expansive beauty of the Blue Mountains, the couple decided it was the perfect place to hold their wedding, Alison adding the theme of their day more or less centred around the landscape. “We wanted it to be rustic, relaxed with some vintage highlights but the most important thing was to have great company and lots of delicious food and drink!” They settled on the same location as their engagement at Wollemi Wilderness Cabins, both agreeing that the place had a special meaning, and an incredible view!
Alison enlisted the skills from designer Leah Da Gloria to create her perfect dress for the day. “I knew I’d be happier with something made to fit my body shape and the whole experience was really special, especially having my mum and sisters attend appointments with me.”
The couple were lucky enough to win the photography package at One Fine Day with our friends Kelly and Dan from All Grown Up Weddings, Alison mentioning, “We were speechless when our photos arrived!”
We couldn’t help but laugh when Al mentioned one of the stand out memories of their day was when her dad was convinced to do a shoey during speeches! (Check out the photos below!)
