Aja and Spencer are self-labelled ‘non-traditionalists’, but we’ll go a step further in saying they’re cutting edge. When they asked all their guests to dress in white for their wedding day, heads turned and gasps were felt from a distance, but it ended up being the best decision for the bride who wore a black Ellery dress, to really stand out in the most unexpected way.
The wintry snowcapped mountains of Tasmania was the setting of Spencer’s proposal, followed by a spontaneous stop at Tasmanian Food & Wine Conservatory which the pair instantly knew would become the place they’d get married at, celebrating with a “big dinner party”.
Cinematographers Roost Film Co and photographers Heart & Colour (despite their name) had a field day in capturing the monochromatic colour scheme of the day.
The most exciting part for their guests? “When our MC and dear friend, Casey announced to the guests that in true Aja and Spencer fashion we were having espresso martinis instead of a wedding cake. The room erupted in cheering! Everyone loved it!,” says Aja, smiling as she reminisces.
Originally a Tassie girl, having all their wedding guests fly in for the occasion meant a huge deal to the bride. “My mother passed away ten years ago and Tassie is where we placed her ashes, so having our wedding in the beautiful state where we grew up and spent many years together as a family was very special, and celebrating important moments like this is a tradition we will continue forever,” says Aja.
As Aja continues to talk about the meaning of marriage, we can’t help but think these two unique people have their hearts in all the right places. “Marriage means to us spending the rest of our lives with someone you not only love, but like. It was part of Spencer’s wedding vows, where he said “I love you, and I like you” and it really is something our relationship is based off.”
