We’re big fans of the One Day Weddings & Events team so when their leading lady, Mikhayla, set out to prove that you don’t always need colour for an epic wedding set-up, we couldn’t wait to see the results. “Aiming to steer away from the soft, airy and showered in natural light looks, I wanted to create a shoot that embraced the “harsh” natural sunlight we often try and steer clear from.” How? Concrete floors, white-painted brick walls, an abundance of candles and layers of soft linen.
One of our fave photographers in the biz, Fox & Kin, is responsible for the moody captures. On her inspo from behind the lens, she notes, “The palette was clean and monochromatic and we played between the lines of drama and softness. Our model, Coffs local Shaz Mercy, embraced her fierce femininity in the Grace Loves Lace Honey Silk Gown with Pearly Long Veil. The hair and makeup highlighted her naturally glowing skin and wild curls.”
You’ll find equally lush layers to the cake, stationery and florals that prove an absence of colour leaves space to go wild with shapes, shadows, texture and movement – keeping things fun, creative and deliciously monochrome.
This swish shoot was originally published in Issue 31 of Hello May magazine. If you’d like to nab yourself a copy to peep more styling inspo, swing by our online store here.
