A story of soft airy lines, nostalgic details, unexpected flora, effortless natural beauty and a sprinkling of edginess – this non-bridal style inspo with Lovaan gowns is a gosh darn gift to anyone looking for something non-tradish. It’s simultaneously feminine and yet undeniably (and unapologetically) alternative as far as conventional ideas of “bridal” go.

These looks were curated by a gathering of local wedding pros (who’ve outdone themselves, don’t you think?!) At the creative helm AND behind the camera was Jules of Love by Colour Captured, who shares that, collectively, the team leaned into “sculptural blooms, undone silhouettes and pared-back beauty, the kind of look that’s just as perfect for eloping in the hills as it is for slipping into after your ceremony.”

Reference pics ready to adorn your moodboard below. But first, some words from the brains who brought all this beautifulness together.

Modern & Nostalgic-Feeling Wedding Photography

Love by Colour Captured is that kind of photographer laid-back couples covet. They have an eye for capturing the energy of a moment – whether it be a key element of the day or something spontaneous and off-the-cuff (but certainly none of that cheesy overly posed stuff). Albums oozing personality and steeped in story are what we’ve come to expect from Jules. Not that we need to tell you any of this, we’re sure you can tell Jules’ talents from these pretty pics. And if this style is exactly what you’re after, you can find more of their work (plus Jules’ contact deets) here on the directory

Moody, Offbeat Bridal Bouquets

“For this shoot, I was inspired by the soft sculptural lines of the Lovaan dresses and the concept of creating something a little unexpected for the modern bride,” shares Anastasia, Florist and Founder of Urban Antidote. Originally from Wellington, NZ, now based in Melbourne, Anastasia thrives on creating modern, artful, bespoke arrangements. “It’s a true labour of love and a space where I get to constantly evolve and experiment with colour and form.” Well, true to form, Anastasia wowed with these blooms and bouquets. “A favourite of mine,” shares Anastasia, “was the green-toned bouquet featuring mini anthuriums, rare orchids, and hanging amaranthus – a bit moody, a bit offbeat.”

Luxurious Silk Accessories

Not enough is said about the benefits of a bridal handbag. As chic as she is functional, a space for your lipstick, bandaids, hanky, pre-aisle mint, an emergency safety pin and all the other bits and bobs a bride might need. Plus, we’re always a fan of a wedding accessory you can continue to reach for after the big day. As you can tell, these Tendresse pieces tick all the boxes. The accessories studio, which has a dedicated Bridal line, is built on a love of natural fabrics (silk, in particular), simplicity, small-batch exclusivity and Australian-made craftsmanship. “For this shoot, I imagined the off-duty ballerina – pieces that are pared-back and timeless, but still radiate a joyful elegance,” explains Andrea of Tendresse Studio. “The silk accessories we used feel equally at home in a bridal moment or a modern wardrobe.”

Elevated Yet Authentic BTS Wedding Content

Wedding Content Creators (like Melbourne’s Behind the Soirée) are a welcome modern addition to the wedding vendor mix for couples keen to share a few special snippets to socials asap (or those simply looking to capture BTS details in a low-fi-but-elevated fashion). With a background in fashion and marketing, Emily from Behind the Soirée is all about blending textured visuals with purposeful details and storytelling that feels elegant but grounded. “This shoot was inspired by the “anti-bride” ethos – bold, stripped-back, and rebellious in the best way,” Emily explains. “The content focused on capturing those contrasts: refined vs undone, soft vs structured, power vs ease.”

Glowy, Feminine, Anti-Traditional Bridal Beauty

A soft down-do, glowy skin and pink tones—Adi Shreeve’s hair and makeup artistry plays oh-so-harmoniously with the unconventional yet ethereal aura of this bridal look. To put it mildly, we’re besotted. “Adi created a fresh, editorial-inspired beauty look tailored to a modern and unique bride,” reflects photographer Jules. “The look felt polished but personal, in step with the anti-traditional, softly sculptural feel of the shoot.”

Where To Find More Unconventional Bridal Style Inspiration?

Brides looking for something a bit different are among friends here. If you ask us, a clever strategy to discover your personal, unique wedding day style might be to pretend you’re not getting dressed for a wedding at all! Thus busting your aesthetic options (and search results) wide open. Secondly, surround yourself with exceptional wedding pros (like these folks). We’re talking florists, beauty artists, gown designers etc who, like you, aren’t here for creating anything ‘cookie-cutter’. Lastly, check out these quirky real weddings on the blog. It’s a treasure trove of inspo, courtesy of couples who like to shake up the status quo.
