I’m Tom, a wedding photographer based in Naarm (Melbourne).
My approach to photographing weddings is documentary-led with a contemporary style, in terms of how I use framing, colour and light. This approach, when paired with an elegant or traditional aesthetic — in terms of dress code or venue, for instance — creates a unique sentimentality and style, especially on film.
Whether working with film or digital formats, my photos elicit liveliness and intimacy. When Hannah and Dan first reached out about working together, they remarked ‘the way you capture emotion feels so true’. I love this idea. I aim to capture the natural moments and subtle details that reflect the essence of you and your day, as well as the love you share with your friends and family. I appreciate that a wedding isn’t only one day, but a celebration of so much and so many.
My photography practice initially focused on documenting moments of quiet contemplation, particularly while travelling. Then, after creating prints and accepting creative briefs, an old friend asked if I could shoot his wedding. I didn’t realise how much I’d love it — photographing weddings is so creatively, emotionally, and physically intense. That was three years ago and since then, my work has featured in Vogue, Wed Vibes, Together Journal, Hello May and Fashion Journal, and has taken me all around Australia and to Belgium, Malaysia, Greece, France and Italy.
