The hunt. Once the formalities are done in each part of the day, I camouflage into the room and go looking for the small stuff, the in-between moments people have when they’ve forgotten a camera is anywhere near. No one performing, everyone actually enjoying themselves. That’s where the best frames are, and it’s the part I wait for all day. Before you knew I was watching.

Staying local and soaking up the sun. Wandering the streets of Newtown for a spot of people watching, dabbling in some thrift shopping (buying nothing, obviously), and never shying away from a lazy lie down in Camperdown Park.

Candid and editorial, with a natural hand. I shoot across digital and 35mm film, and I lean on light and timing rather than poses. You’ll see the day the way it actually happened, not a version of it arranged for the camera. Warm, quiet, a little filmic. Photos that read as yours and not as a template.

Calm, and easy to have around. I move quietly and read a room fast, so most of the day you’ll barely register me working. I step in with direction only when it earns its place, usually for a portrait or two, then I hand the day back to you. The photos are handled. That’s on me, so you can spend the day where it matters.

You get both, and they do different jobs. Digital carries the day. It’s reliable across long hours and every light I’m thrown into. Film is where I slow down. It’s a deliberate choice, frame by frame, for the moments that hold weight. A first look, a portrait, the quiet before something big. There’s a depth and texture to film that digital still can’t reach, and because every frame costs something, I only spend it where it counts. You come away with a complete digital gallery and, running through it, a set of film images that hold the weight of the day.

Yes, always. Sydney is home ground, so anywhere in and around the city is easy. Beyond that, distance has never been the deciding factor. I keep a passport ready and I’ve never turned down a wedding for where it is on the map. From the Highlands to another continent, if that’s where your day is, that’s where I’ll be.

Build in more time than you think you need, then protect it. The days that feel calm in the photos are almost always the ones with room to breathe in the schedule. And give yourselves ten or fifteen minutes alone at some point, no guests, no camera in your face. I’ll be nearby and mostly invisible, and those are often the frames you keep on the wall.
