Artisan Photographs

We’re Artisan Photographs, a wedding photography and videography team based in Newcastle, NSW, and we’re here for couples who want beautiful photos without feeling performative or pressured. Your wedding day will be captured in a way that feels authentic, expressive and artful.

We believe every couple has a unique way of loving each other, and our job is to understand that relationship well enough to make photographs that feel unmistakably yours.

First, we understand you. We get to know more than your names. We notice your humour, quirks, personalities and the way you interact. Are you chaotic, sentimental, goofy, elegant, or somewhere in between? Do you care more about the dance floor than the details, or have you planned every little thing with intention? We pay attention to the history between you, your friends and your family, so we know where our attention matters most.

Then, we notice you. Once we understand people, we know what to look for. The eye rolls, the tiny touches, the quiet smiles, the ridiculous dance moves. We’re not just documenting a wedding as it happens; we’re interpreting what makes your wedding yours.

And finally, we interpret it creatively. Honest moments, elevated through a thoughtful editorial eye.

We’re also a husband-and-wife-run business, and we know choosing your photographers is about more than liking their Instagram. You’ll spend a lot of time with us and we want you to feel comfortable, supported and safe to be yourself.

FAQ

How much do you help with posing? We are worried about looking awkward.

After photographing many weddings, we have subtle prompts for almost every situation and comfort level, and we know when to use them. We create little opportunities for something real to happen, then watch closely to capture it. A simple walk can create beautiful movement, laughter and genuine interactions. The result is photos that feel effortless and candid while still being thoughtfully composed.

We also shoot a lot, so we capture those unintentional moments in between everything else. It’s our mission to make sure you have a selection of banger photos from your day. You won’t have to worry that your effort will be lost because you didn’t know what to do with your hands in front of the camera. We’ve been married and, funnily enough, we don’t like getting our photo taken either, so we know the feeling!

How involved and responsive are you during the lead-up?

We’re pretty involved. From your first enquiry, we’ll quickly confirm availability, send our pricing and have a quick chat to hear about your plans. From there, we’ll meet properly, build the right package and get everything locked in.

Once you book, you’re never left hanging. We provide two extensive photography planning guides, walk you through them on a pre-wedding call and are always just a DM or text away.

A week before your wedding, we’ll go through the entire plan together. And when we say we’ll be there, we mean it. We have Plans B, C, D, E and F to make sure of it. You’ll always know what’s happening, and we’ve got it handled.

What is your wedding videography style, and how do you approach it?

We don’t believe there’s one β€œArtisan” video style that works for everyone. Before your wedding, we meet with you to get a feel for your personalities, your preferences and what you want your film to feel like. Maybe you want something energetic and hype, romantic and emotional, or more cinematic and atmospheric. We’ll shape our approach around you.

We plan your film much like we approach photography: getting to know you, understanding what matters and paying attention to the moments that matter.

Most importantly, we want your film to be exciting enough that you actually want to watch it again and again, while still feeling true to the day. We want the music, speeches, laughter and little moments to bring you right back, without leaning so heavily into trends that the film feels dated over time.
