Together, we explore silhouette, fabrics, necklines, sleeves, corsetry, draping and handcrafted details. Rather than adapting you to an existing gown, we create a wedding dress specifically for you.

For a custom Jennifer Bowden Designs wedding gown, I recommend getting in touch around 9–12 months before your wedding where possible. This allows plenty of time for design development, fabric sourcing, construction and personal fittings. Your gown can evolve from the first ideas through to the final details without rushing the process. However, if your wedding is closer, please still enquire. I can sometimes accommodate shorter timeframes depending on my atelier schedule.

Creating a custom wedding dress begins with a personal consultation at my Melbourne bridal atelier. We talk about your wedding, your personal style, the fashion references you love and, importantly, how you want to feel. From there, I develop your gown design and we explore fabrics, proportions, construction and details together. A series of fittings allows us to refine the silhouette and fit directly on you. I make each custom bridal gown to measure rather than working from a standard bridal sample size. I develop each wedding dress around the bride’s individual proportions, considering silhouette, support, balance, structure and comfort from the beginning. That’s one of the beautiful advantages of working with a couture bridal designer. Rather than expecting your body to conform to an existing gown, we create the gown around you.Fittings throughout the process refine both the fit and overall design.

Jennifer Bowden Designs offers a highly personal approach to custom bridal, shaped by more than 17 years of experience in the bridal industry. I design and make with the individual woman in mind rather than asking her to fit a predetermined bridal ideal. There is an intimacy to couture that I love. Conversations become sketches, sketches become fabric and gradually a one-of-a-kind wedding gown emerges. The result is something created not simply for your wedding, but specifically for you.

You don’t need to arrive at your first custom bridal appointment knowing exactly what your wedding dress should look like. Bring images of fabrics, fashion references or individual details you’ve been drawn to—even if they seem contradictory. These references help me understand your personal aesthetic. Nude or seamless underwear is helpful. If you have them, also bring shoes of a similar height to your intended wedding shoes. Most importantly, come prepared to talk about how you want to feel in your gown. That often tells me far more than a Pinterest board ever could.

Fittings and alterations are an integral part of the Jennifer Bowden Designs custom bridal process. We refine each couture wedding gown through a series of personal fittings at my Melbourne atelier, from early construction through to the final fit. My focus is on fitting and tailoring gowns created within the Jennifer Bowden Designs atelier rather than offering a general bridal alterations service. This keeps every fitting part of the original design and couture-making process.
