While it was a bit difficult at first to secure the ideal location for their big day, there’s no denying that high school sweethearts Teags and Brad (first seen in Issue 16) eventually found their perfect match. “We ended up using the field across from the one Brad proposed on, which looked quite similar. We loved it. I really struggled to find a reception venue because all I wanted was an open canvas to do what I wanted, but I couldn’t find any. When we found The Joinery, we fell in love and booked it straight away,” explains Teags, who describes their epic day of days as “stripped back and casual with lots of foliage and wood”.
She goes on, “I loved all of our foliage and flowers. I bought heaps of flowers and cut down foliage and got a few of my girlfriends to decorate everywhere with it all (the log hanging above us, our chairs, the cross etc.).” In keeping with the casual vibes, Teags skipped out on visiting the usual go-around of bridal boutiques and instead opted for a vintage alternative.
“I first decided I wanted to wear my grandma’s dress when I was going through old photos of her and my grandad about four years ago. My great grandma actually made my dress 50 years ago (for my grandma’s wedding). She used so much detail to make the dress completely unique! Each flower was individually sewn onto the lace which matched so perfectly. What a massive bonus the style has come back! It was extremely special to be able to wear it on my wedding day – I’m lucky enough to still be very close with my grandma so it was lovely to be able to share the same dress for the biggest days of both our lives 50 years apart,” says the bride, adding that many of the pair’s vendors went above and beyond the call of duty.
“Alice Mahran (Photographer) and Joel Tronoff (Cinematographer) were both not only beautiful people, but also so relaxed and just worked around us. Joel was already an old friend of ours from school, so it was special to be able to support his up and coming business (although it’s pretty much already booming!). He shot our wedding perfectly, in such a unique way. You can tell how much time and effort he put into the editing side of it all. He also gave us a sneak peek of our clip the day after our wedding! How’s that for service. We really feel super lucky to have snagged what we see to be two of the best in the industry.”
An undeniably accomplished pair of DIYers, Teags and Brad ensure us that they have no regrets about having an almost entirely handmade celebration. They tell us, “We’re both super creative people so it let us go crazy and felt a great sense of accomplishment.” Their largest feat? The handmade stationery – which was pretty epic, if we do say so ourselves. “The biggest DIY was our wedding invitations. I hand made the paper for the invitations, which I then sewed. I designed the invite layout, ripped the edges to make it look handmade and then sewed it onto linen. It was hard work but worth it.”
