It’s true that many hands make light work and with a little help from family and friends, Po and Dan – one of our lovely couples from issue six – were able to create the kind of wedding that steals your soul and fills it full of love and wine. After three and a half years together, these two could not wait to tie the knot. Only six months after Dan’s musically inspired proposal, they found themselves at the breathtaking Summerlees Estate in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales with legendary photographer Mitch Pohl, saying ‘I do’ in the most enchanting way.
“We are Christians and it was important to us to include something that brought glory to our God. So during the ceremony we took communion to a worship song, sung by our good friends…”, says Po, who later proved that where there’s a will, there’s most certainly a way. Of her dress by Pronovias Dan tells us, “Haha. Funny story really. Well Po saw the dress originally in a wedding dress store. She tried it on and fell in love but it was out of our budget. So, she went online and found a girl that had previously worn the exact same dress for her own wedding and was re-selling it. Po met the girl, tried on the dress and it happened to fit like a glove. No alterations needed. So she got the dress of her dreams for a fraction of the price… It was a bit of a too good to be true situation.”
Unfortunately however, luck wasn’t on their side for long. “… as we walked into the reception we noticed that someone had lit our candles and moved them too close to the flower arrangements on the table… real awkward to find the flowers you’d work so hard on on fire! There were actual flowers on fire! Luckily we checked out the hall before any guests had entered so we fixed the issue. Phew!”
To her credit Po, the owner of Popeas Flowers, jumped straight back on her happy horse until it was time to meet her man. “Our favourite moment of our day was definitely the moment that we saw each other. Neither of us could put into words how we felt in that moment. We knew that it was real, that our love was about to become a forever type of love. Suddenly no one else in the room mattered. It was like an overwhelming sense of “we did it”.
It was a victory that left them both feeling higher than someone on stilts. Not even the heavy rain could wash the smiles off their faces, which is why Po’s advice to engaged couples now is, “Don’t stress! My advice is, choose to let it bring you together instead of further apart. Trust each other and remember that at the end of the day, you are planning a day that is all about celebrating the love you have found as a couple… nothing else. Have fun with it and don’t take anything too seriously!”
