One of the smartest guys we’ve come across, Chris purchase a fake ring (incase things got messy and he misplaced the real deal) with plans of proposing to Penny during a trip to Europe. While in rainy Amsterdam, the pair grabbed supplies for an indoor picnic (blackberries, Nutella and wine – the essentials, duh).
“At the hostel, we’d stacked our two single mattresses underneath a giant arch window in our room and we’re sharing a meal looking over the rainy Dam Square. Then, while in our underwear laughing hysterically, Chris proposed. He even came prepared with a photograph of the real ring with my cat, Khaleesi. He knows me so well – my weird, codependent cat HAD to be involved in the proposal in some way. It was a really happy moment with a beautiful view and a lot of love and laughter.”
Opting for a Sunshine Coast celebration, the pair landed on Yandina Station – a stunning 150 year old dairy house full of warmth and character. “The venue lends itself perfectly for a summertime party and has onsite accommodation, many beautiful locations for the ceremony plus space for receptions of any size. The wet weather option, which we ended up needing, is also a big draw card. A candlelit wedding ceremony with fairy lights and rain pattering on the tin roof is a pretty spectacular back-up plan,” explains the bride, who wanted a boho-chic style.
“Relaxed, not too serious, a little wild but maintaining a touch of sophistication. We held it on a farm and served food banquet style to give the day a warm, homely feeling for our closest friends and family. A mix of wildflowers and peonies was the starting point for the theme we wanted to create.” Wi that in mind, Penny set out to have the perfect dress custom-created with help from legend George Wu.
“George made the experience so special and created the most beautiful gown I’ve ever worn. I wanted a mermaid style wedding dress in blush with delicate embellishments and a cloudy, ethereal train. George took my ramblings and Pinterest board and executed a graceful, magical garment that surpassed my wildest dreams.” With photos by Jess Jackson Photography, prop and furniture hire by Lovestruck Weddings and flowers thanks to Willow Bud Flowers, it’s no wonder that this couple had a wonderful day filled with friends, family and…llamas?!
“I love llamas. They are ridiculous, adorable animals so naturally I wanted llamas at our wedding. I took my brilliant idea to my fiancû? who gave me a swift ‘no, don’t be ridiculous’ and really, there was no way I could put forward a compelling argument for including llamas in the wedding budget. After our ceremony, the sun shower finished and we’re having drinks in the garden and I’m thinking the moment couldn’t be more perfect. When suddenly, two beautiful, fluffy llamas with flower garlands strung around their necks start trotting toward Chris and I. It turns out, when my husband says ‘no llamas’ my bridesmaids didn’t take no for an answer. I’m so lucky to have such sneaky, stubborn and generous women in my life and our photos with the llamas were pretty spectacular.”
