Lovers since university, Melita and Tom decided it was time to say “I do” after spending six years abroad. “It felt like the time was right to draw our European adventure to a close, and return to Perth, but before we left I wanted to take the opportunity to propose to Melita”, says Tom.
Once safely back on Australian soil, they spent the next five months organising the essentials – like photographer Loren Ioppolo of Nectarine Photography and Matthew Bettinaglio of Direct Films. Both architects, Melita and Tom chose to marry at St Denis Catholic Church, “a hidden architectural gem”, says Melita who wore an elegant, beaded gown by renowned London designer Jenny Packham.
The rest of their day took place at The Brown Fox in West Perth, a vintage inspired space decorated with some old furry friends by The Academy of Taxidermy, exquisite flowers by Zinnia Floral Designs and beautiful stationery designed by the bride and groom themselves. “We designed the stationary for the wedding based around a floral image by a French botanical artist called Pierre Joseph Redoute”, Melita tells us.
What had caught most people’s attention however, was the cake. “We are fussy about our music so we carefully selected all the pieces for the church and reception to make sure that it created the right mood that we wanted to set and worked with Tom’s mum Julanne to design a gorgeous sweet and savoury dessert table that consisted of our wedding cheese cake, chocolates, dried fruits, macaroons, fruit cake, nuts and more?”
