Lucy and Steve, one of our lovely couple from issue eight, were brave to host their wedding at home considering they’d not yet spent a single night there. After all, they’d only been handed keys to the front door 48 hours beforehand.
£We always wanted to have a backyard reception, yet had nowhere to have it. We had been looking to buy a house previously without much success and when we found a vacant block of land it was meant to be, so we built our dream home whilst planning our wedding. The completion and the key hand over was just two days before the wedding! says Lucy, forever grateful to the incredible team at Hope and Lace for bringing her vision to life.
Before the big reveal however, Lucy, a flight attendant and Steve, a pilot tied the knot at The Majestic Theatre in Pomona, Queensland – the world’s oldest authentic silent movie theatre. £Neither of us wanted an outdoor ceremony, and we couldn’t really pass up an opportunity to have a ceremony in a beautiful old theatre with a great pub across the road in a real Australian township, says Lucy who arrived to the ceremony wearing a stunning long sleeved Claire Pettibone gown, a beautiful flower crown and a bouquet of wild native blooms.
£This was a Pinterest lover’s dream! I had come across it one day prior to Steve proposing. After a bit of online searching I discovered it was by designer Claire Pettibone and available at her Flagship store in Los Angeles, where luckily I fly to regularly.
By far the most memorable part of their day though, was coming home to a lively, vintage inspired garden party complete with fairy lights, food trucks and a pair of thongs for each and every guest (and thanks to photographer Cassandra Ladru we can relive it all).
£One of our favourite moments was walking into the reception and finally seeing the set-up, which far exceeded our expectations. Also sharing our first dance on the rugs to Neil Young’s Heart of Gold’ with a clip of him playing acoustically behind us, felt like he was really there playing just for us. But nothing could be more special than staying up late in our backyard with the last of our friends and spending our wedding night as our first night in our new home.
