When Sam was badly injured in a motorbike accident, this pair made the decision to beat the odds and see it as an opportunity to grow even stronger as a couple. “We were so incredibly excited about this special day in our lives and the thought of it would help us through our toughest days. We couldn’t wait to devote our lives to each other in the presence of all of our friends and family. A lot of who had been there the whole way through Sam’s recovery offering support and love”, says Kathryn who was over the moon when her Aunt and Uncle offered to host their wedding on their beautiful property in Anstead, Queensland and Paul Voge agreed to be their celebrant.
Erin, the owner of wedding planning and styling company Hope & Lace took inspiration from the family property, helping Kathryn and Sam plan a timeless, rustic wedding with bright, native flowers by Kate Dawes Flower Designs, mismatched furniture and vintage inspired gowns by Fabled and True. “With the help of a few friends and from Erin (Hope & Lace) I came across the Fabled and True website. Once I looked at some of the dresses on her site I knew I didn’t have to look any further. I fell in love with the dresses so much that we ended buying our bridesmaid dresses from her as well.”
Shot by Hello May fave Jess Jackson, Kathryn and Sam threw in a heap of personal touches too including the hand painted wooden love hearts that lined the aisle, the personalised stamp by Ivy Invite featured on their wedding favours and their homemade wedding cake. “Sam had it set in his mind all along that he wanted to make a carrot cake for our wedding cake and that’s what he did. It didn’t last long on the dessert table”, says Kathryn who had Fire ‘N’ Dough, Salad vs Food and The Artful Barista take care of the rest and proved to everyone that when life gives you lemons, it’s always best to make lemonade – and lots of it.
