We love Danielle and Chris’s super sweet story. Danielle, who goes by the name Deej, tells us £Chris took me totally by surprise by proposing on Christmas day in front of my mum and brother. It was the end of the day after all of the festivities and we were all opening presents together under the tree. We finished the last present and that’s when Chris got down on his knee and presented me with the most stunning ring and asked me to marry him. It was so thoughtful of him; he had asked my mum and brother for permission early in the morning- I wondered why everyone was so ‘weird’ all day!! Of course I said yes, through lots of tears.
Once the happy tears dried up it was time to get stuck into the planning. Deej explains “we shied away from many of the traditions; no bridal party, no cutting the cake as we wanted the event to feel like a big party. Colour wise we looked to mainly white with touches of baby blue and pops of red and we kept our guest list small so we could keep an intimate feel.”
They chose the talented folk from Paper and Light Photography to capture their big day and hired the lovely Events By Kate organised a beautiful ceremony and reception. We are huge fans of Deej’s stunning Keshett ring and modern Manning Cartel gown, especially when we heard Deej had a last minute change of heart and swapped dresses TWO WEEKS out from the wedding day!
Deej tells us “I was out with two friends having a coffee one morning when I spotted a gorgeous dress in the window opposite us. It was a great little mini and I made the comment that ‘if that had come in full length I totally would have worn that to my wedding’. One of the girls knew that it did actually come in a full length version so, with much pushing and shoving from the girls, I ended up in the fitting room trying it on. It fit like a glove and I felt fabulous in it; I took it away with me that very day!”
Deej lost her dad to cancer recently, so on the day had her brother walk her down the aisle. She says “he did such a fabulous job; I felt calm as soon as I saw him when I arrived at the venue. I was looking for a way to make mention of my dad on the day and friend suggested we all do a toast with his favorite drink. It just so happens that Ouzo was his favorite and we thought this was the perfect way to tackle what could have been really a sad moment- it was like Dad had the last laugh in making everyone have a shot of something most people can’t stand!”
