“All I wanted was outdoor with fairy lights… thats it! We kept it minimal, no fuss”, says Chanel who was laughing from the moment she arrived – almost like she knew what was about to go down (literally). “I fell over, limbs everywhere, in front of the whole wedding and directly in front of Nelly and Scott. I spent the next 20 minutes laughing about it with guests until I had a spare moment to hide in the bathrooms and dwell on my shame” says photographer Lauren from Still Love who redeemed herself with these amazing shots of Chanel and Scott’s rooftop wedding, held at the Western Australian Maritime Museum.
Chanel and Scott chose to minimise the risk of any wedding day meltdowns by hiring a wedding planner and refusing to take on anything DIY. Instead they hired furniture from Her Handpicked Harvest, had Heyder & Shears take care of catering and placed Steve Handford on decks. Someone had even sorted their glass wear for them, as Chanel explains, “My good friend got married in the early 90’s and they had these very tacky champagne glasses to drink out of at their wedding so they donated them to us so we could continue their hideous tradition.”
The only thing left to worry about, for Chanel anyway, was her dress, which she ended up purchasing from Hobnob Bridal. “I was adamant I was not wearing white. I don’t do white…. ever! I actually bought another dress that was lilac but randomly saw my dress in the window of a bridal store and thought “That’s my dress”. Like they say, when you know you know.
