For Simone and Bec, the same-sex marriage legislation being passed by Parliament meant their three-year engagement could come to an end, in the happiest way possible. “This day had been planned as a commitment ceremony, so for us to be legally wedded on our special day (as passed three days before) was a dream come true.” Here at Hello May we firmly believe love is love, and this wedding (shot by Sigrid Petersen with cinematographer Nathan Kaso) proves exactly that.

THE DRESS When I (Bec) arrived to her final dress fitting and found Simone’s car out the front and called her to find out what was going on. We realised we had bought our (Essence of Australia and Jessica Couture) dresses from the same boutique and had organised our final fittings within half an hour of each other!

MEMORABLE MOMENT Our favourite memory from the day was sitting down next to each other with all of our friends and family around us to witness us signing our wedding papers.

WE’RE GLAD WE… We decided to change the way we walked down the aisle, which made the day unique and special. We walked towards each other and this moment was the first time we saw each other and each other’s dress, hair and makeup. The moment not just for us, but for everyone else watching on, it was incredible and special.

DIY We did all centre pieces and surrounding set up and design. We planted seedlings in flower bowls months before the wedding, so we had special decorations that we had grown together. Signage was cut from pieces of wood from the stables on the property and hand-painted. The archway was created by Simone’s Father from an old stable gate, that was covered in rust and draped with beautiful flowers.

A WORD OF ADVICE Enjoy every little moment together. Do what you as a couple want to do and make your day about you. And if you can afford to, spend extra money on a photographer and videographer, you get your special day over and over.

STANDOUT VENDORS The Tipi Kata teepee and surrounds really set the perfect mood for the wedding, and was defiantly one of our favourite details from the day. Were the teepee sat on the property- surrounded by hay bails- was perfection. We made a strong connection with photographer Sigrid Petersen, videographer Nathan Kaso and celebrant, Lisa Hunt-Wotton. We were blown away by the quality of their service.
