If a wedding were but a cake, the most important ingredients would be two very much in love people. Photographer Josh from The Wanderers says exactly that when he describes the amazing wedding of Craig and Olya.
“This wedding was amazing. Putting two interior designers together is of course, a recipe for a pretty wedding. But this was so much more than a ‘pretty wedding’. The recipe for a beautiful wedding has never and will never change for me. Two people absolutely in love”
And Josh could not be more right! Love birds Craig and Olya recently tied the knot at the rustic and picturesque Elfin Hill in the hunter Valley. A wedding for them, by them. This incredibly creative duo put their interior design expertise to the test by styling everything themselves. “The whole wedding was DIY. It started with the engagement ring which we worked on together, the invitations which Olya drew and printed, to the wedding planning, styling and set up. We put a lot of time and effort in to it to make sure that the day really was our day and not someone else’s interpretation” groom Craig tells us.
Craig and Olya met four years ago whilst both studying interior design at the Enmore Design Centre. Craig tells of the proposal saying that “It wasn’t the most romantic proposal ever as we were on an overcrowded ferry on a river crossing the border from Russia to China. Olya really didn’t believe I was serious and the fact I didn’t have a ring didn’t help but it all worked out in the end. The lead up to the wedding involved a lot of saturdays digging through markets, antique and thrift shops. Our garage was pretty full by the end so the fact that we moved a month before the wedding wasn’t fun. 6 months planning came together really well and the big set up
on the day before went really smoothly thanks to an army of friends and family helpers”.
Having a really relaxed and carefree theme to compliment the divine Elfin Hill was an important element in Craig and Olya’s special day. “We liked the idea of people just moving around freely and the whole event feeling really unstructured. This freaked a few people (mum’s especially) out in the weeks leading up to the day as we didnt over plan, schedule and
scrutinize every last detail but just left it up to the guests”.
